Banana Republics, Show Trials, & Witchhunts, OH MY !!!
Edited on Fri Apr-24-09 06:08 AM by tomm2thumbs
The Republican 'thought machine' aka the forwarded 'talking points memo' that tries to dictate GOP terms to sway the public is at it again. They once again are playing the 'check the old book of terms' for more words that they can try to mold a story to fit their talking points. They recently did this with their 'fascist, socialist & marxist.. oh my' routine to no avail. The irony is - they are using more terms from the past in their next wave of attacks - and continue to think this works. So how does this work.

Point A. The old, leftover thinkers in the GOP consider the term 'banana republic' will somehow bring up images to contemporary voters what they hope are shocking, but which ignores the fact that it is a term better recognized as a name for a major clothing retail store, not a failed state. Next they'll be shouting America is not an Urban Outfitter - thinking it equally suggestive.

Point B. The term Show Trials is something that the younger generation can't even relate to and is likely going to be glossed over by anyone who has been born since 1960. Name a show trial that this generation can really, really put their arms around. I can't. Maybe you'll have to dig back to Stalin? Wow, that's got to be a Cheney or McCain idea for sure. Way to dip deep.

Point C. The term Witchhunts is even more ridiculous given that it refers to something that is not only speaking to things done to innocent people - like drownings (irony), burnings and deadly punishments for crimes of not admitting something which is not true (more irony), but it conjures up a time when people's far right religious views trumped freedoms of others and a 'witchhunt' has become synonymous with the majority going after a helpless minority with pitchforks & torches - not the reverse.

The current legal investigation being discussed for investigating the torture conducted by the United States is being devised to legitimately verify with evidence and facts, those who wished to use their position of power to usurp the laws of our Constitution. Hardly a witchhunt when you could very well be going after the most powerful people in that government.

These old and tired 'book of term' rejects you'll hear again and again are desperate ideas that only serve to remind everyone in America - especially moderates - that the GOP is well beyond it's safe-use date -and should be dumped immediately down the toilet of bad ideas - just to be safe. For all of us.

1. They are playing by a 20th century rule book. They will not be successful.
Obama has changed the game and they don't know how to play.

3. Banana Republic for Rushicans
means black president. They did not see the real evidence of a banana republic when Jeb Bush guaranteed W Florida in 2000 even as Al Gore won the state. They did not see banana republic when they sent their operatives to mash up the recount then and they didn't see banana republic as they were sending their mercenaries into Iraq and looting the Treasury. Fuck every one of them.
They have never fooled me.

4. Thanks for pulling them all together for us.. It's a big pile of wiggling justification
for torture.

5. I think it's important to point out as often as possible that the
people who are leading the "witch hunt" charge are the vary same people who spent years cheering on the Presidential Blow Job Crisis/Show Trial.Seriously, they know they've got nothing, why even debate them as if they're making sense. The answer to the charge of show trails is Presidential Blow Job - Impeachment, nuff said.

6. that is true - and they claim one party investigating another's exec is not appropriate

also, one could easily argue it was more detrimental to do something like that when someone was IN office than to wait until they are out of office - so it does not affect the functioning of the country
