1. The Bayer plant
is about a mile from my home, so the most important story for me is obvious.

Imagine the Bhopal disaster, in the capitol and most populous area of an American state. Considerably more than 4000 people would have been killed. While it was happening, the company wouldn't give any useful information to first responders. And they are still stonewalling, refusing to share information based on a 9/11 law that allows the company to hide information that could be "used by terrorists".

At least this travesty is getting Congressional review. Maybe someone outside West Virginia will start viewing us as something other than a third-world nation.

2. I still can't believe something like that almost happened in the U.S.
Of course, I couldn't believe my eyes August 29, 2005 either.
