With A Truth Commission Apparently Off the Table, What's the Next Step?
Edited on Fri Apr-24-09 10:59 AM by Mr. Ected
Will the DOJ appoint a special prosecutor?

Help me understand this.

"President Obama rebuffed calls for a commission to investigate alleged abuses under the Bush administration in fighting terrorism, telling congressional leaders at a White House meeting yesterday that he wants to look forward instead of litigating the past."

1. I don't see the justification for doing nothing.
Crimes were committed. Indictments should be issued. Or do we no longer care about crime?

7. It Appears That John Boehner Is Leading the Conversation on This
And Obama even gave Cheney some props:

'Obama responded that Cheney had done "a good job at telling his side of the story," according to Democrats and Republicans in the room. "Obama said the memos weren't as clear-cut," one attendee said. '

What the hell is going on here? Is this just Obama playing deft politics (God I hope so)?

8. Don't forget many of these evil men were hold-overs from Watergate and Iran-Contra: two illegal
operations that were NOT fully investigated nor were those "in charge" held accountable.

If we let this slide, the GOP leaders who rise up to the top like pond scum will be EVEN MORE vicious and dismissive of OUR Constitution.

We must investigate and FULLY Prosecute lest the next time these criminals or their off-spring come out of the woodwork, our country will fall to Totalitarian Rule. :grr:

.. there would be NO problem with
truth commissions, investigations,
special prosecutors, or parisanship.

Obama's wimpy backdowns are MOST
distressing.

4. One of two things in my opinion...
Holder is right now considering the "Special Prosectutor" option.. if it goes that route then House/Senate investigations would need to be delayed in light of on-going investigation.

If Holder decides no S-P , then its full steam ahead in the House and Senate.

5. I think he will, and I think Congress..
will get in the act. Hopefully people can barrage their representatives when the cover up testimonies are given. I think it is very important for Congress and/or the Prosecutor to be aware that they are fooling no one, when they practice to deceive.
