1. It's pathetic
Have we made a deal with this old crank not to put up a fresh Dem candidate now?
Toomey is to the right of Santorum and will fight for all fetuses and nothing much else. A fresh Dem would have beaten him.
Specter only cares about Specter, and anyone who votes for an 80-something candidate needs to live with the Amish.

3. completely agree. I'm really hoping that Arlen won't run
he's freakin' 80 years old and he's been there for near 30 years.

7. Arlen Is In For A Rude Awakening...
The Senate is a boy's club...and Arlen's one of the boys. While he thinks he's got a clear path, I'm hoping the netroots gets behind Joe Sestak and give Arlen a solid challenge...let's see how Arlen dances if he sees that he needs to move further left to keep his beloved boy's club membership.

8. totally agree
He's only doing this because he knows he can't win as a Repuke but very well might as a Dem. I'm praying he won't win the Dem primary. He's still a Repuke turd, and he's NOT going to change how he votes. He just wants to be able to keep his seat and still vote Repuke.

9. It would be great if he doesn't run - if this is just a final memorable move...
...to help pass healthcare and energy ~ and stick it to a party who has stuck it to the country one too many times. heh heh

5. Good that he irked the GOP with the move, but he might be too old to
campaign against a tough republican. It won't be Toomey, it will be Tom Ridge. Those disaffected republicans who switched to Democrat may vote for Ridge, even given his association with Bush**.

6. Tom Ridge would be a challenge in the US Senate seat
The RNC has the numbers and know that Pat Toomey cannot win that general election. But someone like Tom Ridge, who is a moderate, could. Worst case they'd end up with another Arlen Specter in their party but they'd get their seat back.
