Republicans are the ultimate Id (Freudian term)
Id = n. In Freudian theory, the division of the psyche that is totally unconscious and serves as the source of instinctual impulses and demands for immediate satisfaction of primitive needs.

republicans feel that the entire world is a machine that's only goal is to make them happy, rich, content. Since that isn't at all what the world is, they are perpetually frustrated.
At times, like Limbaugh, Rove, etc, they achieve a simulcrum of a bubble around themselves that almost achieves that: where their every need and whim is provided, including mindless adoration. The problem is this bubble is not natural, and must be brought about through a huge influx of power, manipulation and falsehoods.

2. And if money is not their main purpose
--- I know one like that - then "being right" is the next id(iot) goal, to the point of overlooking slaughter and destruction in Iraq.

4. I think you're right.
They do believe that they are "right" on some higher level that has nothing to do with ethics or morals or...empathy.

Whatever they do to achieve their goals, be it money, power or whatever, it's all good because THEY deserve it.

Don't even get me started on the entitlements of the right!

5. Immediate satisfaction of primitive needs?
Like calling for prostitutes for instance?

6. technically, they're dysfunctional in the id, ego, and superego
Edited on Wed May-06-09 06:37 PM by MisterP
superego, because they're also for social conformity and "morality"
and ego, because a lot of them barely acknowledge others exist
liberals tend to be more integrated, going by reason and empathy (for further details, see your local Herbert Marcuse today!)
