DNCC Caller Was Rude
Last night, my evening meal was interrupted by a DNCC caller wanting money. I patiently explained to him that I could not afford to donate at this time. So, he continued with his script and bottom line......would I commit to a set number in July. I said "No, I won't commit to July, as I was unsure what thefamily finances would be in July." He then said in a huff, "Well, if you can't even manage your budget through July, I'm talking to the wrong person!" Then he hung up on me. Has anyone else had this kind of experience? While I have donated quite a lot in the past (which he pointed out), I may not donate as much or any in the future if this is the treatment loyal party members are given. I'm not all that happy with MANY in our "democratic majority" anyway. If they are simply going to be "reTHUGlican Lite", then we don't need them! Thanks for listening to my rant.

3. Isn't that what you call the Democratic National Congressional Campaign Committee?
Maybe I have the initials wrong.

7. No, I didn't get their name, unfortunately.
I did tell him that I would donate at some point in the future, but that I was having health problems and paying numerous co-pays, as well as helping out two family members who have been laid off. Obviously, to this man, that just demonstrates that i can't manage money.

2. email the dncc and tell them what happened
tell them they should fire the company they are using if this is typical of the callers the company employs. also inform them until they email you back about this problem you will not donate.

4. I can't even begin to envision
the verbal barrage I would let fly if a party affiliate (of any party) called me during dinner and took me to task for not managing my personal budget well. Rest assured my wife and kids would figure out pretty quick that it wasn't my mom calling. :D

8. Some of Them Are Very Rude
Edited on Wed May-20-09 07:00 AM by iamjoy
I think they hire companies to do fundraising for them and the telemarketer gets a cut of what they collect. I can't remember where I heard/saw that (probably somewhere on DU ;-) )

10. Whoever calls,
I don't let them get a word in; I know I can't contribute, so I say, 'Sorry, I can't help you now,' and I hang up. It works.

11. I've Encountered A Bunch Of Rude Solicitors Lately...
Somehow I've gotten myself on the "call list" of several groups, including some very worthwhile charities. However, it seems like my donations aren't enough these days. I've gotten a bunch of calls from non-profits and other groups looking for a few bucks...many telling me a tough-luck story about how their funding has been cut. Almost always, if it's an organization I'm familiar with, I will try to help a little more (not their suggested donation...what I decide I can afford).

As a general rule, if its not an organization I'm familiar with or haven't given to in the past...or don't feel like giving to, I ask them to send me the information in the mail. If they get huffy with me at that point, I get a stiff back and tell them that that's the only way I donate...take it or leave it.

Many groups are trying to push their telephone solicitors to make up for lost money from corporates and other big donors and the push is on the little guys and those making the calls.

I haven't received a call from the DNC lately...but I expect one soon.

13. I never donate over the phone. Never.
I run a small non-profit grant-making organization, and if they give me attitude, I tell them that. And I tell them that giving attitude is a sure-fire way to ensure that I won't be giving to their organization. I've called headquarters to complain, as well.

Generally, the only orgs that give me any problems are things like the Police Leagues. (I don't want to say the PBA, but organizations similar that I have never heard of.) I tell them that I will never make any donations unless I have paperwork to look at and the ability to do research. If they persist after that, I'll hang up.

14. Had the same thing happen
When I got the call I told the guy that I had been laid off last December and we had stopped making donations, we also had made some good sized donations in the past. He then lowered the amount he was asking for and said something to the effect of "don't you think this is important?" I said my families finances were more important and then he hung up on me.
