The DHS report MUST be taken seriously.

First off, if you haven't read it, you can read it in its entirety here (scroll down):
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/14/homeland-security-report_n_186834.html

It was not long after Napolitano released this memo that republicans demanded she/the DHS retract it and take it down from the DHS website - and so she did. Since then, the document has been fodder for both the right and the MSM - until today.

Not even 2 months later, the document's revelations have come true. Today's events, unfortunately, are just the tip of the iceberg.

In the coming days and weeks, we will learn of the suspect's connections to militias and anti-government groups. We've already found out he was once arrested with bomb-making materials in his car. What needs to be made perfectly clear by Janet and the DHS is that these groups are NO different than Al-Qaeda or the Taliban. In fact, they are nothing more than an Americanized version of the two.

1. So DHS is good when it serves your particular purposes.

Bad when it doesn't.

3. Yes, things are good when they do good, and bad when they do bad. Duh.
Got any other gems of genius to sparkle us with?

6. You completely mischaracterized what I said.
Good for you. I imagine you'll just ape out something equally as worthless as what you just posted, so go ahead.

4. To say the DHS is bad in general is a broad stroke.

Yes, the name has a certain Orwellian sound to it, but it doesn't mean that with the right people in charge, a department for national security is a bad thing because the guy who used to run it was an asshat.

Janet's report was spot-on. I don't care WHAT department it came from.

2. "Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided..."
"Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration."

"(U) Revisiting the 1990s

(U//FOUO) Paralleling the current national climate, rightwing extremists during the 1990s exploited a variety of social issues and political themes to increase group visibility and recruit new members. Prominent among these themes were the militia movement’s opposition to gun control efforts, criticism of free trade agreements (particularly those with Mexico), and highlighting perceived government infringement on civil liberties as well as white supremacists’ longstanding exploitation of social issues such as abortion, inter-racial crimes, and same-sex marriage. During the 1990s, these issues contributed to the growth in the number of domestic rightwing terrorist and extremist groups and an increase in violent acts targeting government facilities, law enforcement officers, banks, and infrastructure sectors."

Sounds spot-on to me.
