It's So Quiet Here. Has The Torture Outrage Dissipated Already?
Is Obama being coy? Is he keeping his powder dry? How about our Congress? Are they being coy? Are they keeping their powder dry?

Or...did our beloved Democrats just allow Dick Cheney to frame the debate, to utter his defenses, and to slither away...without taking the opportunity to nail him and the rest of the Bush administration to the cross for their gutter transgressions?

What will it take to get some TRACTION on this issue? It's far too relevant to just shrivel up and die with the new news cycle.

2. Me Too. It's Up To Us To Keep the Subject Kicked.
I know we have to remain topical on DU. But the Dems still haven't spoken on the subject, and it's high time that our representatives start representing us.

5. What I've been doing is going back over old ground
Taking a fresh look, given what we know today, at material (books, films/documentaries, blogs, etc) that was produced during that period. Trying to create a coherent time line in my head.

It's tough because I'm completely immersed in some really horrific stuff.

On the plus side though, today I made a committment to somehow get involved, personally, with local returning veterans. I don't yet know how or what, but something will happen.

3. The real question is what should be done when the legal process ends?
I still hold out hope that something will be done. But if action is not taken, what do we do about it?

4. Obama won't touch it. He wants to "move forward." I guess you have to be a
member of the choir to understand it.

It's very suspicious and unforgivable to me.

6. It makes perfect sense actually, Some crimes can be forgiven if they happened in the past
It is a standard defense really. All you need to do to choose if a crime is in the "optional investigation/prosecution" class is ask a focus group if investigating a crime will appear "mean" or not.

Why do you think I plan on robbing a bank and then laying low for a while? If I wait a few months the police will not have to investigate if they think it will make them unpopular.

That is why every criminal behind bars hasn't committed crimes YET, it is because only future crime is illegal silly.

New bumper sticker: "Optional Justice - It's Not Just for Banana Republics Anymore!"

You should really stop thinking in such archaic black and white terms.
Get with the program! This is after all a new american century and rule of law is soooo old fashioned.

I think you should stop it with the poutrage and realize that the POTUS was a law scholar, he would know if crimes are punishable or not, you don't have anywhere near his knowledge and understanding and I think you should go find some backward "law and order" country to live in if all you want to do is complain!!!!

I have my eye on you - you potential freeper you!

7. The party line is to "leave it be," You will only hear about it from a select few politicians.
I fear the only traction you will see in an official capacity will be from abroad.
I am growing quite angry about it and fear that we will be embarrassed for decades, no generations, as a nation if a foreign court is forced to clean up our mess and charge our criminals for us.

I don't understand this betrayal of our legal system at all and occasionally I grow either very angry and vocal or very sarcastic and vocal, and example of the latter can be found down post.

You can try doing what I do and sign all the petitions and write letters to the AG your congress-critters and our President, but I have to tell you that unless you have exceptional representation, you will only become angry and bitter at the lack of their interest in what used to be our American concept of rule of law.

I live in New York so I can tell you that my representatives couldn't care less. I wish you better luck at gaining traction from your reps.

Peace.

8. Based On the Fact That I Live In Georgia
It's probably far more likely that I would be tortured for my beliefs by these believers in torture.

9. I imagine since you live there you will not be "tortured"
You will instead be submitted to "enhanced ideological correction"

All the benefits of torture but with 50% less calories than correct terminology.

(sorry I couldn't resist, I know the GOP is big there and new terminology is what the GOP uses to make illegal things legal.
We know that Gawd would not want any of them to commit crimes after all.)
