Obama to Iran's leaders: Stop 'unjust' actions

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama on Saturday challenged Iran's government to halt a "violent and unjust" crackdown on dissenters, using his bluntest language yet to condemn Tehran's postelection response.

Obama has sought a measured reaction to avoid being drawn in as a meddler in Iranian affairs. His comments have grown more pointed as the clashes intensified, and his latest remarks took direct aim at Iranian leaders.

"We call on the Iranian government to stop all violent and unjust actions against its own people," Obama said in a written statement. "The universal rights to assembly and free speech must be respected, and the United States stands with all who seek to exercise those rights." . . .

2.  Now Iran has ammunition accusing America of "meddling".
But I agree, it was high time for Obama to step up and say something.

5. Obama is wrong on that one from the beginning
there is a difference between "meddling" and protesting abuses

the consequence of Obama's standpoint is that the US should STFU when the next crackdown happens in Iibet, Darfur or wherever...

it's a very dangerous standpoint for the future and be sure that Obama will be reminded of that next time it happens...

and stop trying to overthrow other countries' legitimate governments. President Obama can only say so much because of the actions of our government in the past make us suspect. If those arrested in Iran are tortured, we will not have moral authority to say anything. This sucks. Nobody really cares what the US thinks because we fucking did worse to the Iraqi people. Bush, using our soldiers as proxies, ran over their kids with tanks and raped their young girls, beat old women and blew their young men and babies to pieces. The Iraqi people just couldn't Twitter it, so not enough people gave a shit. As the self-proclaimed, "Greatest Country on Earth", we are utterly irrelevant. No one pays any mind to hypocrites and liars. What the fuck good would it do for the US to get 'tough' on what we are seeing in Iran? All we can do is watch, and that makes me angry.
