How touching ....Reza Pahlevi, former Iranian Crown Prince, sheds tears for Iran on CNN
The son of the butcher of Iran, the former Shah, wept today at a national news conference. He misses the good old days when his old man, the Shah of Iran, ran the nation with a iron fist and murdered/tortured thousands of Iranians who dared to oppose his despotic regime.

But, the former Crown Prince of Iran assured us in his news conference that he no longer wishes to revive the monarchy.

Today he is fighting for a free, democratic and secular Iran! As long as he's in charge and can have his mansions and private investments back. He's a democratic fighter for human rights, just like George W. Bush was!

He also said that a protesters defeat could lead to nuclear holocaust.

Your Excellency Prince Reza Pahlavi

1. Francis Shaeffer's son is now a very outspoken critic of his own father
I don't know much about the Shah's son, and it's entirely possible that he's much like his father in his views, I honestly do not know.

But the opposite has also been known to happen. Look up Frank Schaeffer to see what I mean.

3. I watched live on CSpan and it was fall down funny
watching that theatrical performance. It was so well staged that he made Mrs Alito look like an amateur.

5. Not exactly a rags to riches story for the Shah's son.

From the photos it looks more like a riches to more riches story.

I think that the overshelming majority of Iranians, both demonstrators and supporters of the current President, want absolutely nothing to do with the Crown Prince of Iran or for the matter the Princess of Iran!

6. Oh, I'm sure potential new dictators will be coming out of the woodwork.
I just pray Obama is smart enough to stay out of it and not help install one.

7. Funny to see so called progressives damning people for the sins of their fathers.
Edited on Mon Jun-22-09 04:00 PM by Kurska
He doesn't even call himself the current shah, he Prefers to be referred to as the former crown prince. The man has been a human rights advocate for decades and has never claimed to want to be restored to the throne, The guy only wants there to be free and fair elections (Which he was calling for way before it was cool).

Oh but I'm sure you can see beyond that facade of noble human being.

9. He's a fricken rich right-wing sob who makes George W. Bush look like a liberal

I don't believe you actually believe he's a man of the people who cares so deeply for the people of Iran.

What does he say about the former butcher of Iran, his loving pop?

10. I don't believe he has ever said much about his father.
I do know that he no longer claims in anyway to be a Shah and that his only openly stated political desire is that Iran have Free and Fair elections. At the outbreak of the Iran-Iraq war he did offer to go back and serve as a fighter pilot (He had extensive Flight training).

My opinion of the man is that he seems to be a somewhat decent human being and while I may not trust his motives entirely because of who is father is, I've never been given any direct reason on why he is apparently such a terrible person.

11. Here's the best thing Prince Reza Pahlavi can do to "help" Iran

He can shut his fricken mouth! Pahlavi's news conference can only gave ammunition to the current regime in Iran. Why? Because Pahlavi has no popular support in Iran and if he tried to return to Iran millions would be out in the streets to protest his return. That would unite ALL candidates and their supporters in the recent election.

It was easy for him to offer to be a fighter pilot during the Iran-Iraq war. It was an offer that would never had been accepted by the Iranian government or people. In fact, I can just picture the huge protests if he landed at the Baghdad airport to offer his services to the Iranian Air Force.

The Iranian people don't want to see him, don't want to talk with him and want him to stay out of Iranian affairs. He would be welcomed as much in Iran as David Duke would be welcomed in Harlem.

12. Regardless. by all accounts he seems like a very decent person.
He may not be popular or liked in Iran, but when I watch that video I see a man who is genuinely worried about a country he feels a deep affection for. I'm not very worried about the sins of his father. Right now I've seen zero reason to believe that he has any malice towards the Iranian people.

If he ever tries to reclaim the throne or shows signs of wanting to do so, I would be very much against that, but as of now he seems harmless.
