The surreal quality of healthcare/Iran debate in the US
I realize solutions are difficult as special interests and propaganda manipulate the system/debate/outcome. That said IMO the debate over health care is somewhat odd. By that I mean we are talking about a government that still refuses to come clean about the WoT, invasion/occupation of Iraq, bank bailouts, etc. The health care debate reminds me of the FISA debate--a bunch of politicians pretended to be concerned about standing up for the rule of law only to "compromise" with immunity legislation!

Another example of disconnect is the Iranian situation. It's easy to understand why US citizens are moved/inspired by the courage of Iranian citizens but when our politicians pretend our society is functioning smoothly that is pushing the envelope. It reminds me of a fairly recent episode where some US politician criticized the human rights record of another country. Are you kidding?

1. The Republicans are only Talking to American voters.
They don't care much about Iran, except maybe if oil was involved. They are spouting to try and get some political points in an election.

2. As a mildly ironic aside...
my cousin in Iran seems to have a hard time grasping the idea that I have no health insurance, and don't dare go to a doctor unless it's absolutely dire/life threatening.

Makes you think...
