What is happening at CNN re: global warming denial? I am so pissed off. Hope thinkprogress airs it
Fredrika Whitfield, all morning on the "Newsroom" on CNN, was pumping an upcomming interview with a skeptic. Each time she refers to how there's still a "debate" raging.

Then ahead of that some CNN guy joins her and they show a short piece narrated by him in which he says it's "unclear" how much humans are causing global warming.

Finally they come to the phone interview with this skeptic, introduced by Fredrika as an "award-winning climate scientist", and the banner is "GLOBAL OVERREACTION?".
The main point that this "award winning" skeptic had to make was that "viewers need to remember" all the good that burning energy has brought us!

CAN YOU F'N BELIEVE IT? WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?

Fredrika then asked about the bad like climate changing and polar bears, and the guy just says that it's not so bad...Africa is being "picked on" but climate has been shifting there for "thousands of years", and the polar bear numbers have quadrupled.

She actually let him get away with saying people need to remember all the good things burning energy has brought us.
So like....what's his point Fred? We shouldn't be trying to reduce energy consumption because then all of the energy we've consumed will have died for nothing?

I am so bloody mad at CNN I could spit. They've obviously decided to make global warming an issue of "debate" to pump up viewership. Lending credibility to these souless snake-oil salesmen is unforgivable.

Please contact them to express displeasure at http://www.cnn.com/feedback/

THINKPROGRESS/CROOKSANDLIARS......CAN ONE OF YOU EXPOSE THE MORNINGS IMMORAL DISHONESTY AT CNN???

2. Write to CNN and complain!
The Producer, who I think was most responsible for turning CNN into Fox "news light" just jumped ship and was just hired by over at Fox "news," so this is probably the best time to pressure them to start doing News again.

3. I complained to them online. Twice. See the bottom of the OP for the link...
to their contact page.

I contacted them for a general comment, and directed a comment directly at Ms Whitfield.

5. CNN's trying to suck up to the Rw'ers
they've sunken to new lows: hiring former-Faux anchor bimbos, et al.
There is no news left to watch anymore. Aside from KO at 8PM, I cant stomach the junk.

9. exactly--that climate report yesterday was so dire, they feel they have to balance
with the "other" viewpoint in order to avoid complaints from the WH. They've done it repeatedly.

When the snowdrifts in Manhattan reach the 3rd floor restrooms, maybe they'll start re-thinking their priorities.

13. The IPCC paper is now lining birdcages. There is a new person in charge now
Due to the sneaky Bush recess appointment, Susan Dudley has been put in charge of climate change regs at the OMB.

How bad is Dudley you ask. Well, Susan Dudley has been known to say that no regs need to be changed to decrease smog. She believes the frail people should be instructed to just stay indoors on smoggy days. On that nasty arsenic in drinking water problem, she says ignore it . . .

because she argued that the Environmental Protection Agency's calculations of the costs and benefits overvalued some lives, particularly those of older people with a small life expectancy.

This is Bush's choice for point person on climate change.

17. Call and write your reps. Also, so few people really knows of this
write letters to your editors to help get the word out to the people.

One recess appointment got some press, the Swift Boater supporter Fox was recess appointed as ambassador to Belgium. There is a bit of noise out there that Congress may fight that one.

But there were two other recess appointments. A man who wants to privatize social security/medicare was put second in charge of SS. The second recess appointment is this hater of regulations, Susan Dudley.

32. Are you kidding?!?!...
...There will never be "an end" to it as long as someone feels one cent of profit is endangered by acknowledgement of climate change.

History shows that humans are terrible in regards to proactivity. Ask a passenger pigeon...

please ask them to review the newsroom program from about 2 hours ago up until this interview, which was about 45 minutes ago.

A montage (montoge?) of Fredricka and CNN's despicable/dishonest treatment of the issue would be wonderful.

Time to hold them to account.

12. Get ready for more of this because of the Dudley recess appointment
Susan Dudley hates regs. She believe regs get in the way of profits.

Susan Dudley has been put in charge of regs at the OMB. This is equal to a death nell to any positive movement on climate change controls.

On March 27, the Government Accountability Project (GAP), a public interest advocacy and watchdog organization, released a report detailing political interference in federal offices performing scientific research related to global climate change. The report, Redacting the Science of Climate Change, focuses on the manipulation of agency scientific communications to Congress and the media. The report is the product of a year-long investigation which included interviews and examinations of internal executive branch documents.

Examples in the report indicate OMB has been involved in political interference. OMB exerted political influence in responses to questions from Congress. OMB also plays an oversight role in a federal climate science clearinghouse.

For example, after an April 26, 2006, Senate committee hearing on the effects of climate change, two senators submitted questions for the record to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. A number of federal offices, including OMB, took the opportunity to comment on and edit the responses.

In one of its edits, OMB inserted text which "attributed global warming to increasing water vapor

14. I just saw a report by Carol Costello that was extremely one-sided
First she pointed out that there was some scientist from the hurricane center who doesn't believe in global warming. And then there was a long interview with some guy who runs a coal fired energy plant who claimed it was all just "global cookieness," and that jobs would be lost. She said they contacted Al Gore's office and she read a brief statement from them. But there was no real rebuttal.

Ironically, their web site has many stories about the dangers of global warming.

Maybe that's the cover for their on-air bullshit.

They are out of control. After news of delegates from US, China, and Saudi Arabia watering down the IPCC report over the objections of scientists, for CNN to be using a banner of "OVERREACTION?" when discussing global warming is beyond immoral.

19. I agree 100%
CNN is trying to generate a controversy about global warming in order to increase viewership. But I hate the fact that they are trying to convey the scientific community as a bunch of nut cases.

22. It's truely despicable. Can the media ever rise to show a moral responsibility?
The irony is if they did so, the viewership would explode.

Any network willing to say "No...stop. We know the deniers are liars, and we know this is important...more important than terrorism" would be watched by the public like a strange new animal.

18. Don't forget The "Cartoon News Network" and their corporate buddies are about one thing: ratings
To expect anything but sensationalist garbage out of them is to set yourself up for disappointment. They realize that the majority of people who get their news from the "idiot box" aren't very bright and so they don't really need to be concerned with presenting facts. They just need to keep dangling the shiny keys in front of their viewers to keep them coming back for more.

30. Calling CNN the Cartoon News Network is insulting
I don't know if calling CNN the Cartoon News Network is insulting to CNN or the Cartoon Network. However, CNN has often tried to portray the debate on global warming as skeptics versus the majority of scientists. At this point, considering that there are well over 900 peer reviewed study on global warming, we should give the skeptics about as much credibility as those who would argue about the law of gravity.

It pays to do your own research and your own thinking.

27. Sam Donaldson gave a speech about the media being "fair and balanced"
He said that the world isn't fair and balanced. The media should be fair and accurate. If an issue has 100 people on one side and one person on the other, it wouldn't be accurate to show one person from each side. Yet that's what the news shows always do when they're reading email comments.
