Vet says pets could develop problems long after eating bad food
Mcalester News Capital

A local veterinarian cautions that animals who ate contaminated pet food, and who are acting fine right now, might actually have kidney damage that could show up later.

“We may not see it for a year or two, but they could have premature renal problems that may shorten their lives,” Dr. Brian Renegar said.

In short, it can be a killer when eaten.

Any animals that just aren’t acting like their normal selves should be taken to the vet, where they can have their kidney enzymes checked. Unfortunately, Renegar said, there may have been animals who died before the recall whose contaminated food-related deaths can’t be confirmed.

1. I suspect that many of the more severely affected animals, though
they appear to have recovered, will be at increased risk down the road for CHRONIC renal failure. They will need to be followed up on long-term.

We are only born with just so many nephrons (the microscopic functional units of the kidney). They can be damaged, and recover. Or they can be killed, in which case all the other heroic little nephrons have to pick up the slack permanently. That makes THEM wear out sooner.........

2. im extremely sceptically that the fda has any clue as to what is going on.
or if they do they are deliberately confusing the issue.

originally the claim was that rat poison was found. then the big melamine scare. then melamine is in everything.

my suspicion is that the melamine has been there for awhile and the crappy fda never caught it.
my suspicion also is that the original mass poisoning and kidney failures were not caused by melamine.

i dont know what the reality is but it smells like a cover up.
