8. Why put deciphering in quotes?
It's a perfectly good word, used correctly in the sentence. I'm trying to decipher what you meant by the quotation marks. Is it similar to what people do when speaking and they want to qualify something? They often sign quotation marks with both hands. I guess I can't "decipher" your title here.
