Guess what? That heroic NC Senator who shot "intruders," actually shot one of his clients!

This was buried in that longer thread that people here want to ignore, because, after all, the story they want to believe is that if you own a gun, well, you use it only to protect yourself from intruders.

This Senator sounds pretty sleazy, and while these clients don't seem to be on the up and up, there's a lot more to this story that what has been previously posted.

1. So a "client" can't attempt to commit a home invasion?
Once you have a relationship with someone you lose the right to not have them force your door down?
"Sleazy" have no right to self defense?

Man you are getting sad.

I read the article and I am still not sure where you get the idea that it wasn't a home invasion.

3. Interestingly, Mr.Gore, the DA who will be deciding whether or not to press charges
Edited on Mon Aug-24-09 06:07 PM by geckosfeet
is an intimate of the shooter. Oddly enough he has this to say:

On Monday, Mr. Gore released a written statement in which he said, "I understand there may be some sense of immediacy in obtaining comments and/or answers relating to the shooting at the home of Senator RC Soles on Sunday, August 23. I have met with the lead investigator and reviewed preliminary reports. However, we are still in the fact-gathering mode and
will not know what charges, if any, will be made. Nor do we know who, if anyone, will be charged. We will not know those answers until we have had the opportunity to review all the data collected by officers during this investigation. I do not have a timetable for those answers. Since there is currently an on-going SBI investigation into the shooting, I will not be addressing other questions on the matter. In addition, for anyone wanting to address the issues of self defense or defense of habitation, my staff and I will not be able to discuss those at this time. Since those concepts may play a vital role in determining the ultimate outcome of this incident, I must reserve any comment on those principles until the full investigative report has been reviewed."

Indeed.

But wait, there's more -

Gore and Soles have a long standing friendship, and are political allies in the Democratic Party.

In fact, Senator Soles has given money to Rex Gore's campaign for district attorney, and Gore has given money to Soles’ campaign with thousands of dollars changing hands over the years.

According to published reports, the two were linked back in the 1980's in a federal case known as Col-Cor, which was short for Columbus County corruption.

This fish has been out in the sun too long. And it's only been a day.

A day later, but still no arrests made involving shooting at RC Soles' house

5. That stuck out, too...this senator was indicted, although not convicted...
...I wouldn't believe his story over some common criminal's, beacuse, quite frankly, that's what he appears to be also.

4. The story kind of does stink
Be interesting to see how this one sorts out. Interesting snippets:

"The senator asked us to leave numerous times. Kyle was a little drunk and using hand gestures like he was going to assault the senator," Wright told Wilmington television station WECT-TV on Monday. "The man was defending his home, property and integrity."

A view of the home from Sky 5 shows tire tracks across the front yard.

Soles has had a series of confrontations with former law clients in the past two years, according to The Associated Press. He called for help from local police at least nine times to ward off men who were charged with trespassing.

The senator is known around Tabor City area for providing young men with cash to buy cars and homes. He has dismissed questions about the practice, saying he gives money to countless people in need, not just troubled young men.

The 74-year-old also is the subject of a separate SBI investigation prompted by an allegation that he tried to fondle a man more than a decade ago.
