As long as Glenn Beck has a job with FOX, Van Jones should have a job at the White House
Pence calls on Van Jones to resign

Rep. Mike Pence, the no. 3 Republican in the House, is calling on Obama green jobs czar Van Jones to resign.

This sort of thing would usually be laughed off by Democrats -- a conservative Republican telling a Democratic appointee to quit.

But the Obama team isn't exactly jumping to back Jones today in wake of revelations that in the past he signed on to one of the "truther" groups that claimed 9/11 was an inside job. Oh, and he called Republicans a**holes in a video earlier this year before he was appointed.

Asked about Jones' affiliations with the 9/11 group at the daily briefing, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs would only say: "It's not something that the president agrees with." And then Gibbs referred other questions to a statement Thursday by the Council on Environmental Quality in which Jones said he never backed any of these 9/11 conspiracy groups.

1. Pence embraces town hall questioner who compares Obama to Hitler.
Rather than reject the questioner’s false assertion, Pence simply said, “Thank you.”

2. Foxnews is not a government agency
the white house is.

Important difference.

Not bags are free to run around in the general public, they are a bit more concerning when appointed to national posts.

3. So are you calling Jones a "Not" (I am sure you mean nut) bag?
????

Nut-bag is what I meant.

And generally yes I would call conspiracy theorists nut-bags.

9-11 truthers are no better than birthers or any other crazy fetish that people can't just let go of.

Birthers don't really concern me when all they do is post on the internet, for instance. But if they were appointed to secretary of defense (or some other significant posting) I would be a bit worried.

6. Have you ever defended the Democratic Party on this site?

Just curious.

7. Not often, except when genuinely maligned
Edited on Sat Sep-05-09 03:12 PM by JonQ
But I don't give my loyalty to a party. More to this country, it's founding ideals and my own beliefs.

A party is made up of mostly corrupt politicians seeking reelection (often by appeasing whatever groups fronted them the money to get elected). In that sense there is no difference between the two major parties, they merely have different groups to placate.

And as such they are not worthy of my worship.

Political ideologies deserve loyalty, political parties, not so much.

But are you saying I should support people who do things I don't approve of if they have a D after their name? And oppose people who act correctly if they have an R after theirs?

March in lockstep with the party line eh?

How progressive.

Son, all I asked was a simple question and you answered it honestly. At first. But then you had to edit your post and act defensive on the matter.

The website is called Democratic Underground after all. All I ask was if you ever defended the Democratic Party on any issue here.

It's a simple question. Too complicated for you perhaps?

9. Yes, far too simple for me
that's why I was able to answer it accurately and correctly. :eyes:

I had assumed the website was more for people of a particular ideology, rather than mindless parroting of party lines and fanatical loyalty to the democratic party.

I suppose if anyone who criticizes official party doctrine at any point is verboten then I will be gone soon. But from what I've seen, so will a great many other users.

10. Perhaps your right. The question was much more complicated than I had realized.
Edited on Sat Sep-05-09 03:38 PM by gatorboy
Because you avoid giving any examples.

The only individual speaking about fanatical loyalty is yourself. I'll type slower this time. Perhaps I'll get an honest answer (Probably not, but hey- I tried!).

Are their any issues that you agree with the Democratic party on. Can you be specific? Again just curious.

14. See post 11
And specific examples, just off the top of my head some of the big ones are abortion, stem cells (science in general actually), gay marriage (again, anything regarding homosexuals in general compared to the republicans), the war in Iraq, religion in politics (or the lack thereof), public education, spending on infrastructure improvement, reducing the size of the military, legalizing drugs or reducing their penalties.

Not an exhaustive list, but a start.

Things I don't agree with, guns, an outright ban on all capital punishment, the way the bailout was handled, deference to wallstreet and investors. And probably some other things.

11. On second thought, perhaps I was a bit defensive
to an honest question, without ulterior motives.

I'm just tired of getting shit for holding the democrats to the same standards as any other politician (not from you, in general) and being accused of disloyalty on this site.

So I may have overreacted, my apologies.

Hey could you guys move to Florida instead? It's easier to wall off than Texas.

17. So then you believe the Bush Crime Family?
Chimp Bush and Darth Cheney lied about everything that happened before 9-11-01, and they lied about everything after 9-11-01, but on the events of that day, they made an exception and told the truth?

Yeah, sure. :eyes:

21. So you believe that the jews were behind it?
I mean, that's why absolutely no jews showed up to work on 911 at the WTC, at least according to some truthers.

As long as we're throwing around baseless accusations, why do you distrust the jews so much?

27. So why do you believe a ridiculous "official story"
which has almost zero actual evidence to back it up? Especially when that story comes from known LIARS.

28. Because there is evidence to back it up
including thousands of eyewitnesses. And no evidence supporting the conspiracy theory.

If bush had said the sky was blue I have a feeling some people would start some insane conspiracy theory to refute it.
