Max Baucus should be keelhauled
on the biggest ship known to man.

That he would show K Streeters a copy of his committee's health care reform bill is an "in your face" undermining of

the government. It's bad enough that legislators slink around and do it on the sly. By doing this, Baucus has openly

slapped President Obama.

There are a lot of things that have vexed me lately. However, this action has managed to get on my last nerve. When

something has found my last nerve, I am truly and completely pissed.

Before Baucus is sent over the side, he needs to have a "Come to Jesus" meeting and then be baptized.

SNAKE!

1. I will not support mandatory insurance with fines levied
to me that just seems asinine, counter-productive, and the furthest thing from "reform"

4. Aye matey!
But not before he walks the gauntlet! The salty water in the wounds would send the message even more clearly.

5. His Bill Is DOA...
This is just the end of the circle jerk...a part of the process that has to play out. Many here seem to miss civics class but President Obama tried to let the legislative legislate...take the lead on this matter. It would have been a lot easier if he had willing partners on the other side but without going through this process how would we know? If anything, he now also knows whose his real friends in the Democratic party are as well.

The focus was on Baccus cause his committee would put the bill through its toughest paces and "conventional wisdom" said if it made it through the committee it'd pass the full Senate. It didn't work out that way. There were GrASSley and Enzi playing their games...teasing to stay relevant but never going to agree on anything short of what the insurance companies wanted. Sadly the same went with Baccus who tried to paper things over but we know whose side he's on.

The bill now is one of four...two in the Senate...one which is Senator Kennedy's and then Baccus' piece of shit. Hopefully the pressure will be applied to get the Kennedy bill past cloture and the Baucus mess will be forgotten.

The key tonight will be how President Obama addresses the public option...the stronger he endorses it, the worse it looks for Maxie.

6. His action isn't about the bill.
It is about respect for President Obama. I don't think I have ever heard someone have to admit that another group had

actually seen a bill before the White House. It may have happened, but it wasn't flouted.

7. Happens All The Time
I recall the '96 Telcom Bill was all but written by lobbyists...I saw proposals being written and rewritten by various interest groups and then rammed through the House by Billy Tauzin. By the time Clinton saw it, it was a done deal. But that also was pushed through a rushpublican House & Senate. Then there was the Prescription Drug fiasco during the booooshie years that was passed in the dead of night by holding the House vote open and then DeLay bribing a Congresscritter to change his vote.

That said, I do get your point, but I don't see this as a matter of respect. For the last 8 years we didn't have a functioning legislative. The bills were written behind closed doors and little debate was allowed. It's hard to get "dissed" when there's little to no debate.

Cheers...
