Brownback Knocks Down Lieberman Claim That Iraq Resolutions ‘Encourage The Enemy’
Edited on Sun Jan-28-07 01:10 PM by CatWoman
This morning on Fox News, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) echoed the Bush administration and claimed that people who oppose escalation in Iraq are emboldening terrorists. “It will discourage our troops, who we’re asking to carry out this new plan, and it will encourage the enemy,” Lieberman said.

Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS), who announced on Friday he will support Sen. John Warner’s (R-VA) anti-escalation resolution, pointed out the obvious: “I don’t see this enemy as needing any more emboldening or getting it from any resolution. They’re emboldened now.”

Full transcript:

LIEBERMAN: I fear that while this resolution is non-binding and, therefore, will not affect the implementation of the plan, it will do two things that can be harmful, which is that it will discourage our troops, who we’re asking to carry out this new plan, and it will encourage the enemy, because as General Petraeus said to our committee, war is a test of wills, and you don’t want your enemy to be given any hope.

BROWNBACK: I don’t — I don’t see this enemy as needing any more emboldening or getting it from any resolution. They’re emboldened now. I was there two weeks ago in Iraq. I was in Baghdad. I was in northern Iraq. This is a very aggressive situation. You have sectarian violence of Sunni and Shia. I was in the Kurdish area. They were talking about we have to get the Sunni and Shia together. I talked with the head of the Kurdish group. He said he wouldn’t vote for more troops because you have to first force the Sunni and Shia to sit down and talk about a political accommodation and that’s not happening.

4. Ex Governor Blowback is a hard-core con-job
Edited on Sun Jan-28-07 01:15 PM by DainBramaged
I listened to him on Press the meat and he is no way a moderate, in spite of his lies. He is anti-woman, Pro-Jesus and everyone else can go to hell. He raised all of the "sin" taxes in Missouri and burdened his already over-taxed lower and middle class there. Oh yes, and he is anti-gay to the extreme. Lying scum.

he is scum. He will not be America's choice in 2008 in spite of his middle of the road bullshit.

(edit for more negatives about Sammy Blowback)

5. Now the key question is whether "anti-surge" Repubs like Hagel or Brownback can
rip off a couple of early primary wins.

If they can, and start to look like a winner, this will make for an interesting national dialogue and media coverage.

8. What's too funny/sad is that Gen. Petraeus' statement that Lieberman cited, was a statement
that Lieberman squeezed out of him with his own leading question in the first place (emboldening enemy etc.).

9. We've fallen down the rabbit hole
SAM BROWNBECK?

That certifiable whack job?

And we're depending on him to be the voice of reason.

This is screwed up.

Count on Joe to be a toady. But for Bush to be losing even such hard-core totalitarians as Brownbeck... wow.

10. Signs of strange times for sure
On Fox news, a republican knocks down a turn-coat Dem (now I), for saying a republican talking point.

Just weird.

15. Who and what is Joe Lieberman? He ran
as a Democrat, votes Republican and when he lost the Democratic primary he was arrogant enough to become I for Independent. I think he became an I for idiot. Joe got a do-over! There are many on the Hill who are less than honest, but I think Joe gets the trophy.
