How to sell McCain to GenXers. Dude should grow a goatee
Edited on Sat Apr-14-07 03:51 PM by Bucky
Finally, a thread that's not about Imus!
From the cageliner Washington Times feature "Inside the Beltway"

Nevertheless, Washington-based Grooming Lounge owners Mike Gilman and Pirooz Sarshar say voters historically choose the better-groomed candidate, particularly after the "perceived weaknesses" of their opponents "are played out in the media."

Without further ado, here's the pair's advice for a few of 2008's contenders:

Sen. John McCain: At age 72, the Arizona Republican needs to play up his youthful spirit by growing a goatee, skipping the tie occasionally, and wearing his top shirt button undone.

Because of my interest in marketing, I found this a worthy notion, frankly. So to get ideas of how this would work, I turned to a bloggers best friend, the Google image search. This is what a goatee looks like:
And this is a McCain

Put 'em together and, friends, you create marketing magic!

2. With the facial hair McCain looks like a murder suspect in a CLUE boardgame.
A CLUE character who's clueless.

Iraq is dragging the man down. It's lashing him by the hour. Pretty soon there'll barely be enough of a crowd at a McCain event to play poker.

Nice visuals there. With the facial hair, all he needs now is some piercings and diviner's rod.

4. That would probably increase sales of Captain Morgan
Although I doubt that's the intended effect.

5. Worst photoshop job ever. Truly the very worst.
I doubt, however, that a clever use of the technology would have helped. McCain's problem goes beyond his hair follicles.

7. McCain is living on borrowed time, he's even behind Fred Thompson who isn't running yet...

8. Not to criticize but we're a little past 'gen x' nowadays
I'm 'gen x' and I'm 43. It's more like 'gen omega' or something at this point. And no, the gnarly goatee does nothing for him...Mebbe you should try muttonchops, or a pompadour? He needs some *bling* too.
