I don't know why Toles appeals to me so much, but I find his stuff to be truly outstanding.

1. You know what I appreciate about Toles?

Unlike a lot of newer political cartoonists, he uses words only when he has to, and he manages to still make his point of view crystal clear. Other comics think they're re-writing War and Peace with their strips with long rambling screeds instead of letting the image do the talking, which is the whole point of a comic instead of a column.

2. I definitely prefer that style.

Pat Oliphant is a perfect example of that same style.

The less the better. Toles is a master of getting his point across with as few words, and as clear an image as possible.
