Washington, DC, 4/10/07: Democrats on The Hill are united in opposition
to the controversial Bush administration's new Republican Assistance to
Predatory Enterprises (RAPE) program. "This program simply leaves the public
at the mercy of corporate interests. In fact, the policies of this program literally
holds the American public down while they are being raped by Big Business.
The program could not have a more fitting name." said Representative Barbara Boxer of California.
Bush's RAPE program was set up to assist businesses derive the maximum profits
possible and has been widely lauded by larger US corporations. "I don't know where
we'd be without the RAPE program." commented Richard T. Clark, CEO of the global
pharmaceutical giant MERCK when questioned by reporters. "Instead of a minimally
acceptable 45% net profit this year we would have had to be satisfied less than 20%
without the program. RAPE has definitely been good for our business."
Merck, once involved in germ warfare research and development, enjoyed good profits
under the program even with the thousands of lawsuits filed against them since 2004
due to problems with their drug VIOXX. "A few thousand deaths is statistically insignificant
when you compare that to all the good the drug may have done." said Merck's public relations director.
