Rice calls Imus' on-air slur 'disgusting'

Rice calls Imus' on-air slur 'disgusting'

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the highest-ranking black woman in government history, said the racist, sexist comments that got radio shock jock Don Imus fired were "disgusting."

In her first public remarks on the controversy, Rice said Friday that Imus had insulted not only female athletes but all young black women by referring to the Rutgers women's basketball team as "nappy headed hos."

"They're 18- and 19-year-old women," she said. "And what were they doing except showing that they're really fine athletes, playing under extraordinary pressure in which for them was a dream season.

"And it gets ruined by this disgusting -- and I'll use the word 'disgusting' -- comment which doesn't belong in any polite company and certainly doesn't belong on any radio station that I would listen to," Rice told talk show host Michael Medved.

1. Yep, They were a bunch of achieving kids
Condi, for once, has it right. Too bad she chose to shoe shop rather than help Katrina victims.

4. Isn't she a week beyond the fact???
All this Imus hoopla started a week ago yesterday. Where was she at that time? Why is Sleeza only now commenting about this issue?

13. The Heritage Foundation's Press Room was blindsided by Imus's remarks.
And, being that they are all white, Christian males, had no idea what words to put in Condi's mouth.

Gotta admit; it wasn't a bad response--just too little and WAY too late.

nothing to do with race.

6. Bravo to Madame Secretary for finally finding her voice!

Now, I'd be interested in how she feels about present and former members of the United States Senate having been referred to as "Halfrican-Americans," "fags," and "stereotypical bitches."

9. I don't care what she has to say about anything
For that matter, i don't care what anybody has to say about Imus, especially a week after reading nothing but Imus this, Imus
And just because I feel like ranting, I also do not care what IMUS has to say about anything

10. Is Ms. Rice the highest over-rated
person? I believe so. What exactly has she accomplished? Nothing? What has she lied about? Plenty i e 9 11 and the lead up to Iraq....What did she do to help the folks in New Orleans? She was shopping for shoes.....

If Sherry Palmer were still on 24, Ms Rice could play that part well...She kind of reminds me of Sherry Palmer....It only took Ms Rice a week to have a comment on this issue....

Well hell.....

12. Ironically, Penny Johnson (Sherry Palmer) did play Condi in a 9/11 movie.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0353042/

Also, 24's President Logan (Gregory Itzin) played John Ashcroft in the same movie. Weird coincidence.

14. You gotta feel sorry for Ms. Rice
She is as smart woman. I would say "articulate", but that would probably get me banned... just kidding. But it's true. Too bad she's hitched up with Bush and is a "team player" to the bitter end. Same with Gonzalez. I really don't think he's that bad a guy, he just has drank the Kool-Aide.

The real architects of evil for this administration are Rove and Cheney. Bush himself is too stupid to create the kind of evil attributed to him. But Rove and Cheney both have brains, and brains are the prerequisite to truely nefarious acts. The rest of them, they are just too loyal for their own good. I wonder if 10-15 years from now Colin Powell will come clean.

17. Not even a little bit.
She's earned everything she's gotten, from the membership on the fat oil company's board of directors to the fucked up world situation that she won't be able to patch together after serving four years as the memo-losing, war mongering NSD to the worst and stupidest American president since the Civil War. She's one them "vulcans" who helped drive this country's reputation over a cliff and got 3000 Americans killed, twice, by sheer incompetance.

Sorry for her? For her? Not until she's run over by Laura while walking from the parking lot into the West Wing.

18. what's wrong with oil companies?
Do you drive a car? Wear a polyester shirt? Oil a squeaky hinge? I don't understand this oil company bashing. They make products you and I want... nay, need.

Gee, maybe it's because my family comes from Oklahoma, where oil is in the blood? Yes, carbon dioxide is not good, an oilless economy would be nice, but guess what... It ain't gonna happen until America ditches their appetite for oil. And make no mistake, it's huge. Even at 2.90 a gallon people are gulping it down like crazy; only the poor are suffering from these high prices, the middle class seems to be doing OK, some might be putting off other things on their car or house to pay for it(I see/hear alot more cars with bald tires driving around, on otherwise decent look automobiles... people definitely feeling a pinch), and the rich aren't even feeling it at all.

And as for being the architect of Iraq, the honor falls squarely to Dick Cheney. It really was his idea. But I'm open to evidence showing otherwise. What evidence do you have that Condoleeza Rice was persuasive in the decision to invade Iraq?

YAWN.

Sure, Condi, sure. You care, we see. Hey, wanna buy a new weather vane? This one shows which way the wind is blowing a day or two faster....

(BTW, Condi, Imus told me to tell you he is NOT going to let you visit the ranch this summer and ride his horses. Sorry!)
