TV Newser: In Wolf "Out of Line" Blitzer v. Dick Cheney, Wolf Wins

In Wolf v. Dick, Blitzer Wins

I think it's safe to say that Wolf "out of line" Blitzer was the winner of last week's verbal battle with Dick Cheney. Maureen Dowd recounted the highlights of the exchange in her column, and the Toronto Star says the interview is "now-famous." (Already!)

Cheney didn't fare very well. The St. Petersburg Times says Cheney "snapped, complained and growled," Newsday hears a "the piercing dagger-squint and the abrupt flatness" in his "seething" tone, and Editor & Publisher compares Cheney to "Baghdad Bob."

Meanwhile, Blitzer's work is being praised. The Newark-Star Ledger notes the "tough questioning;" HuffPost says the interview transcript "contains terrific dramatic moments, bristling with the energy of a Mamet play;" and the interview, and the start of the Libby trial, even leads Tim Rutten to say that "Cheney and his former aides aren't simply contemptuous of the individual reporters or even of the press itself. They're contemptuous of the principle under which the free press operates -- which is the American people's right to have a reasonable account of what the government does in their name."

1. Kudos to Dick... for finally pushing Blitzer passed his GOP enabling mode
didn't think anything could do it - but dead-eye-dick did the deed.

6. Actually, I think Blitz was pushed past the point before this.
I think it was Lynne Cheney accusing him of siding with the enemy that pissed him off.

The interview with Snarl was payback - although he should have held his ground on the 'lesbian daughter' bit at the end. He would have made Shooter's head explode if he did.

7. They are a pair that have pushed many over
to our side, aren't they? Tragic that they have so much power to do so much damage in the meantime (while pushing most of the population over to ourside, that is.)

4. I hate to see much "glory" attaching to Wolfie....
He was bound to ask touchy dick an uncomfoartable question one day... hard to avoid it really, with that black hole of a human being.

5. It was great to see the Wolf finally bare his canines
But why did he hand Cheney such a freebie by asking about his daughter? I'm not saying it isn't a legitimate question given their hypocrisy on the issue, but let's face it, here is a man who has committed hundreds of criminal and unconstitutional acts that Wolf could have used that time to ask him about. After all, it isn't very often that the evil one emerges from his secret lair.

It just seems like it gave the GOP an excuse to get indignant over a peripheral issue and ignore the real issues, again.

8. As Ian Masters said today on his radio show
the Wolf Blitzer interview of Dick Cheney was one long filibuster that showed just what a bully Cheney is. He bullied Wolf into not following up on questions, just like he bullied the CIA and the Defense Department into not saying anything to contradict his warmongering mindset.
