Calif. Pilot Arrested For Alleged Low-Fly Stalking

CONCORD (AP) ― Police have arrested a Contra Costa County pilot who they say stalked his ex-girlfriend by repeatedly flying his plane low over her house.

Concord police Sgt. Tiffiny Leftwich said Tom Huey of Concord made several low passes over a residential neighborhood Wednesday evening.

A dozen residents called police to complain about the plane. Huey was arrested shortly after landing the Beech single-engine aircraft around 6:40 p.m.

Leftwich said police have been investigating reports of a low-flying plane in the area for more than a year.

Huey's girlfriend filed for a restraining order last year, but he was not served until Wednesday afternoon.

Does is really take that long to get a restraining order?

1. Well, how many feet away did he have to stay from her?
And was he at least that many feet up?

:sarcasm:

3. It does if the officers are not motivated to serve it
Or if the perp is good at avoiding them.

4. That happened with some friends of mine. He kept evading service until they gave up.

5. It wasn't a domestic violence case but I was assaulted by a guy I was trying to evict
When we were trying to get the papers served on him to force the eviction, he kept evading the officers. I called the warrant office and talked with the officers - they were not aware of the assault and took note of the information I gave them on how to find the guy and he was served the next day. It turned out he had repeatedly denied to the officers that he was the one they were looking for and without a description, they could not know he was lying.

So I know how hard it can be to get the papers served. And then of course, there is the problem of enforcement which is basically impossible in many cases.

6. This wasn't really a big deal and it all blew over.
My friends and I were all in our mid-late teens, one of my friends (16, 17ish?) was dating another friend (18ish? maybe 19?) I forget the exact ages because this was quite a few years ago, but he was fresh out of high school and she was a junior or something, so not a huge age disparity. Anyhow, her parents were fairly well off, his family was not, he didn't dress like the sort of preppy boy who these people wanted for their daughter, and her parents flipped the hell out and told the law god knows what to get a restraining order. It never got served, life went on and being teenagers they broke up on their own not long after.

Unfortunately BS cases like what happened with my friends draw time and resources away from serving and enforcing necessary no contact orders.
