4. What the hell - I thought the DoD had regulations against this

I consider faith an individual matter for individual troops - in other words, there should be no religious test for entry or promotion in the army - but nor should US service vehicles or troops on duty take any part in establishing religion anywhere, ever.

You can do what I did and express your feelings by contacting the DoD here: http://www.defense.gov/landing/questions.aspx I included a link to the HuffPo story and a brief message along the lines of the above. Being polite and to the point is the most effective way to get taken seriously by whoever is tasked with reading such mail.
