Is Lou Dobbs, CNN's Resident Bigot, on His Way Out?
Is Lou Dobbs, CNN's Resident Bigot, on His Way Out?
By Don Hazen, AlterNet. Posted September 29, 2009.

Protest campaigns urging CNN to dump Dobbs are gathering momentum. Will 'the most trusted name in news' do the right thing?

It's time to give Lou Dobbs the boot: Add your name to AlterNet and CREDO's petition, and send him to the sidelines.

The heat on CNN to dump right-wing nativist news host Lou Dobbs has reached a boiling point.

Several grassroots and Internet campaigns urging CNN to drop Dobbs in response to his relentless hate-talk are gathering momentum and tens of thousands of signatures. Will Dobbs finally be stopped from using his on-air bully pulpit to bash immigrants and spread misleading and inaccurate information?

One major anti-Dobbs campaign, Basta Dobbs.com, calls Dobbs the "most dangerous man for Latinos in America."

Just how dangerous is Dobbs? According to Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center, "The rise in hate crimes against Latinos coincides almost exactly with the time Dobbs has been propagating false conspiracy theories about Latinos on the air. He's not urging people to go hurt and kill -- but that is the effect of what he does."

3. Dobbs is easier to knock out. He isn't on a network totally dominated by right wingers. nt

2. I appreciate a post that speculates on Dobbs' air-time longevity. For my part, I hope
CNN whips out that pink slip real soon and slaps it on Dobbs' desk.

5. My question is - Is he on his way to Faux News? Was he trying to pull a "Beck" deal?
Only time will tell but he is a real loser in my book. At one time I thought he was someone who had some class and integrity but I have lost all hope and would like to see him off the air ASAP!

6. My suspicion is that Dobbs is there to try and grab CNN some Fox viewership.
CNN is trying to be the "middle of the road" network, which isn't such a bad goal, except that on one side of the road you've got sanity and on the other you've got batshit crazy. Trying to be the middle of -that- road just leaves you looking pathetic.

9. You're on to something. With immigration reform on the horizon, Dobbs could be a ratings bonanza
for CNN by drawing RW viewers from Fox.

7. Does Lou Doobies Have Any Friends Left On DU?
I remember not long ago how some here loved Lou cause he "stood up for the small guy". I never bought that crap cause I saw how Doobies played the corporate games in the 80s and 90s...his game then was to be Mr. Wall Street. You can't be the defender of the big money and still pretend to support the "little guy". Thus I was an early critic of his here for many of the reasons that people are now calling for his head. His campaign against Hispanics has gotten more and more racist based over the years as his definition of the "little guy" included those who wear white robes and hoods.

It's been at least 3 years since I've tuned in the Doobmeister...in fact I rarely turn on Chicken Noodle Nuze these days. They tried to play faux lite (with Doobies leading the way) and now are a joke. I still chuckle thinking Andy Richter kicked poor Wolfie's ass...
