Michael Moore targets Blue Dogs

By Martin Kady II / Politico

This one has all the makings of a perfect Washington media frenzy.

Throw in a few liberal activists, a steel union official and filmmaker Michael Moore, invite the press to the headquarters of consumer watchdog Public Citizen for a press conference on the evils of capitalism — and voilà, instant cable candy.

Moore is in town to promote his film "Capitalism: A Love Story," and while his movie is already being mocked by Republicans, Moore's real targets are Democrats. A press release promoting the Tuesday event says the purpose is "to challenge President Barack Obama and Democratic members of Congress to get tough — really tough — on health care reform."

The group will call for a single-payer, government-run health care system — something that isn't even on the table in the current health care debate.

Moore is expected to directly target moderate Blue Dog Democrats in his press conference, which he'll co-host with Robert Weissman, president of Public Citizen, and Fred Redmond, vice president of United Steelworkers.

3. Remind me HTF blue dogs even exist?
The democratic party I grew up with has all but disappeared. Which is a crying shame. In my day, even the conservative democrats leaned left on most issues. Where did these idiots come from?

5. The Republik party. As the seriously ill captured their party, the saner authoritarians moved into
the opposition party and split the opposing views enabling the wackos to take over.

:hi:

They came from years of the "middle" being pushed...heaved ever more to the right.

Decades of the "government is the problem" from the right, made policy-wonks (like dems have always been) almost extinct.

Everything became "conservative", and if you look back you'll see that since 1969 we've only had TWO democratic administrations.

Carter was a one-termer who was demonized by republicans and bedeviled by the hostage taking for the most important part of his term.

Clinton was no "liberal", and the republicans shamed & harrassed him into extreme-moderation (where policy came into play).

LBJ was the only real liberal we have had since FDR..and even Eisenhower was more liberal that most modern dems.

Our current crop of DINOS are wimpy types who have to p[retend to be republicans in order to get elected, and then vote against most democratic measures to stay elected..

8. And boy, is that depressing
When the progressives in Congress have a hard time getting legislation passed, I sometimes feel as if I should just give up and move somewhere sane.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm a longtime lurker who decided to finally jump in.

9. In other words
The "blue-dogs" are moderates who get elected because of their moderate views and then vote against most liberal measures in order to represent their constituents so that they can stay elected.
The nerve of them assholes, representing those who elected them and all.

6. What's it gonna be, Blue Dogs?
Do you stand with your constituents, or are you too addicted to corporate handouts to care what the hoi polloi think?

I especially like how this tactic makes whatever the Republicans think and do irrelevant.

10. No Free Pass Alert: "moderate Blue Dog Democrats"
"Voting with the Republicans" does not make one "moderate".
