Another shameless whoring for recs!
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=6655232&mesg_id=6655232

This important issue had 3 recs--now it has none. I imagine some will unrec the thread just because I posted this thread, but I'm tired of letting fucking freepers win. The California tax plan is a Grover Nordquist wet dream. And, as California goes, so will probably go the nation. Please read the thread, even if you unrec it. It's important.

1. I know who the fuck would unrec this.
Apparenty the same assholes who I thought would be banned by now because they unrec everything that needs to be recced.

That and the contrarian bastards around here who behave like a bunch of 4chan kids.

That lofty principal on which we justify the existance of the internet. I've had it a couple of times.

And some douchebag who cannot put his disapproval in rational words unrecs. I mean if you disagree write so and explain "why". Like I said...FReepers and 4chan kids.

7. 4chan.org.
Imagine a internet playground that resembles a combination of the following and populated by 14 year old virgins for life/FReepers in training and make it smell like Vaseline:

Lord of the Flies
Filesharing of some of the sickest porn around
Free Republic (Because Liberal is Stoopid!)
Peter Pan's Lost Boys
Hentai (Japanese Anime Porn)

Now let them all act like bullies (and cyberstalk folks who had their kids commit suicide recently) and you've got the patheticness that is 4chan.

30. What an absurd statement. "everything that needs to be recced"
No thread "needs to be recced". Some deserve it and most don't. None of them need it.

Please, PLEASE count me one of the "assholes" that would unrecommend this thread for inclusion on the greatest threads page.

Know why?

Because it in no way, shape or form deserves to be considered as "great".

This thread and the others of the same ilk put up by the OP today are little more than a cheap, poorly thought out scream for everyone to "HEY!! LOOK AT ME!! WHAT I HAVE TO SAY DESERVES EVERYONE'S APPROVAL AND ACKNOWLEDGMENT!!"

I think most of the people who would unrec this and similar threads feel the same way. If a thread can stand on its merits as one of the greatest, it will get the required 5 votes.

Otherwise, you and the OP should stop throwing your teddy out of the pram and get the hell on with your life, FOR FUCKS SAKE.

Real conversations should be recced or ignored or so I dare to feel. I see conversations there. Exchange of ideas. People talking and not just one lining insults. Sorry but that's why I like this place. It has a little more potential than some caterwauling jizzmopper one-uppery factory that most forums spit out.

If you cannot ignore then so sorry. You are acting like the petulant one. Go on...some folks just love to be contrarian for the sake of being contrarian. It's "cool".

You don't like this kind of rec whoring? Fine. I kind of agree. Shit...unrec the hell out of this one...I could care less about this particular thread...but the one the OP linked to is one of those where folks talk. I like it when the big kids exchange ideas.

34. Trust me on this one - I do not think posting on DU, reccing or unreccing makes me "cool"
I couldn't give two shits. Honestly. I just find it incredibly amusing and somewhat pathetic that certain posters on this board get their knickers in such an incredible twist because not everyone agrees with them about what is great or not. It is childish in the extreme and yet people like you choose to call those that do not agree "children" "assholes", "douchebags", "4Chan kids", "Freepers" "bullies" and a "guy who argues like a kid with ADD".

If you will read my post, my response to your post (#1 on this thread) I did not say the linked thread is "worthy of unreccing".

But does it REALLY qualify as one of the greatest threads? Really? Is it truly great? It is a news story, nothing more. But OK, if more people than not think it deserves placement on the greatest page, it will get there and no amount of whining to the contrary will stop it.

I find it interesting YOY, that you, at least at the point of me typing this, have not posted a response to the linked thread. Posting to the thread will draw more eyes to it, yet you are here, on this thread, complaining about another thread you haven't responded to.

Fascinating.

And you don't think folks who initially unrecced that link before this brought this thread might be something other than honest posters?

36. OK, fine. You read it and recommended it for inclusion on the greatest page.
Edited on Tue Sep-29-09 05:27 PM by A HERETIC I AM
But surely you realize that posting a reply to a thread kicks it back to the top of the page and THEREFORE GETS MORE EYES ON IT.

Your profile says you've been here since 2005 and you have almost 17,000 posts. Surely by now you realize that replying to a thread kicks it to the top where more people are likely to read it.

So I need to comment on it too?
You don't need to do anything, as far as I am concerned but is smacks of hypocrisy to complain that others might unrec something and not say why when you yourself, in this very thread said "And some douchebag who cannot put his disapproval in rational words unrecs. I mean if you disagree write so and explain "why"." Why are you exempt? Shouldn't you have to explain why you recommended the thread? After all, whats good for the Goose is good for the Gander, no?

Please stop being rude. It's like arguing over what shade of red you prefer. Pointless.
I wasn't trying to be rude. If you and I were sitting next to each other at a bar right now, chatting over a beer, you would be able to see my face, hear my voice and read my body language. I might get animated, but I am not trying to be nor do I think I am being rude. For the record, "Give me a ticket red" is my favorite red. Looks great on a performance car.

If you do not like the thread that Nikkistone posted then ignore it. This one too.
I read threads that have well written subject lines - ones that catch my eye and/or deal with subjects I'm interested in. That being said, I ignore the overwhelming majority of threads posted on DU, much like most of the rest of this community, I'm sure.

And you don't think folks who initially unrecced that link before this brought this thread might be something other than honest posters?
No, I don't think that at all. Why should I question the motivation of someone who thinks a particular thread is not worthy of appearing on the greatest page and based on something so banal, why would I even begin to question their honesty? Doing so does not strike me as rational. I've put up threads in the past that I thought were hilarious yet they got 4 responses, perhaps 200 views and sunk like a stone. I've put up threads with information that I felt was valuable to a majority of people who share similar views as mine and the same thing happened. You won't see me complaining about it and you'll see me do a "self kick" damned rarely. It is what it is. If people like a thread, they'll respond or rec or both (or even neither). If they don't they won't. It's no skin off my nose. I realize that my user name alone raises some hackles. I say things and hold opinions many on this board don't like. It ain't easy being a Heretic. But someone has to be. Being a mere Heathen is not enough.

Trust me on this one too. That guy I was arguing with in that one thread? He was arguing for the sake of arguing. Kept calling himself a "Real Democrat" and yet had no idea anyone stands for. Really. If you don't believe me find that little gem of a character on DU. He's a treasure.
Look, I'm sure you have run up against people that are a pain in the ass in real life. But this is, after all, the internet. Out of all the billions of people with the ability to log on to this website, be thankful that your experiences with difficult personalities is something you can easily reduce or eliminate by a mere keystroke or mouse click.

Your petty whinging about how many recs it has recieved, or whether it's trolls, freepers or kids that are unreccing, introduces personality and attitude into the situation, and causes people like me and others to unrec your post out of principle.

Edited on Tue Sep-29-09 03:54 PM by Javaman
if the story has legs, it will get recs, but since you now post for recs, it will get unrec'd. Guilt by association.

I believe if you just self kick in the future, you will probably get all the recs you want, that is of course if the thread is worthy of it.

Just because you say something is important, and it maybe important to you, or you deem it important, doesn't mean it's important to everyone else.

Leave ego at the curb next time and allow your thread to evolve on its own.

Some advice:

if you start a thread regarding the unrec function, be prepared for it to be massively unrec'd.

If you whine why one of your own threads didn't just make us all squirm with delight, then be prepared to be unrec'd.

If you come across with an attempt to sound reasonable regarding the unrecing of one of your posts, be prepared to be unrec'd.

If you shout, "I'M BEING SILENCED", be prepared to be unrec'd.

If you feign ignorance as to why your post was unrec'd, be prepared to be unrec'd

And lastly...

If you start a thread regarding unrec, be prepared to be unrec'd, flamed mercilessly, and alerted to the mods as being a freep, troll, moron, in need of a pizza, etc.

Just a few of the simple facts of posting about the unrec function.

Cheers!

41. If you choose to keep your prejudices is your problem.
If you don't think the issue is important, then leave it alone. Other people do care about the tax structure. And if I have to do the DU equivalent of standing in the middle of the street in a sandwich board, I will do it to bring attention to the issue.

If you choose not to understand, that's your choice. Just don't become part of the problem. Masturbate yourself to the Pulanski stuff on the board. There's plenty of it. You can even read the poor child's rape transcript and jack off to it if you like.

But leave the important issues to the adults in the room.

38. Thanks for sending me there to oppose Republican tax slashing cruelty.
When will our people be fed up with the dumb propaganda that taxing the rich will hurt anyone other than the rich? We're propagandized against it so much because the media companies are owned by the super rich and many of our legislators are multimillionaires. But 90% of us are getting poorer. And our tax system is grossly unfair.

Put simply, the rich pay a lot of taxes as a total percentage of taxes collected, but they don’t pay a lot of taxes as a percentage of what they can afford to pay, or as a percentage of what the government needs to close the deficit gap.

Mr. Buffett compiled a data sheet of the men and women who work in his office. He had each of them make a fraction; the numerator was how much they paid in federal income tax and in payroll taxes for Social Security and Medicare, and the denominator was their taxable income. The people in his office were mostly secretaries and clerks, though not all.

It turned out that Mr. Buffett, with immense income from dividends and capital gains, paid far, far less as a fraction of his income than the secretaries or the clerks or anyone else in his office. Further, in conversation it came up that Mr. Buffett doesn’t use any tax planning at all. He just pays as the Internal Revenue Code requires. “How can this be fair?” he asked of how little he pays relative to his employees. “How can this be right?”

Even though I agreed with him, I warned that whenever someone tried to raise the issue, he or she was accused of fomenting class warfare.

“There’s class warfare, all right,” Mr. Buffett said, “but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war, and we’re winning.”
