1. if there is no real reform (and it doesn't look like there will be) then
yes, I think it should be scrapped, because what we'll end up with will be worse than what we have now.

3. This is barely the beginning of the process
There is also the Senate HELP bill which has already been voted out of committee. It has a public option. We need to start focusing on getting that passed.

Then we get one of 3 bills passed in the House, or all 3.

Then the whole mess goes to a House-Senate conference committee and we get a final bill.

Then we see what that is - and then we can talk about whether it needs to be scrapped or not.

yeesh.

4. For another thirty years? I don't think so.
It needs to be done now and if Congress and the White House can't get it right this time, it needs to be brought up again and again until they do it right.

13. "needs to be brought up again and again until they do it right"
Yes. And it needs to be rejected again and again until they do it right.

The danger right now is that they will go forward with their plans to do it wrong.

Of course, the Republicans would love it if we gave up now. This thing is far from being over.

14. Stop it. Fear is a control mechanism.
It's what idiots are kept in line with. Use common sense in lieu of fear. It will keep you alive just as long and ten times as happy.

16. The insurance co's will price themselves out of business in less than 10 years...
Without REAL reform, the market will break.

IMO, the current crop of options (not the public one) are all ways to extend the viability of private insurance companies through the years of the aging pre-Medicare baby boomers.

At the rate it's going, and without a mandate, the insurance co's will be 'forced' to simply charge regular families more than they can afford.

(without a mandate) People will be forced to 'go without'. The problems we're seeing now (untreated illnesses getting worse, bankruptcies, etc) will get much worse.

Not wanting a bad situation to become worse, the fact is that all of the bills without a public option will not be significantly better/cheaper than no bill at all.

17. Why the fuck would anyone recommend this?
Edited on Tue Sep-29-09 04:45 PM by lumberjack_jeff
OP's should include more than a punctuation mark to merit recommendation.
