Poor Mr. Sparkman/ Latex Gloves
In my life I have tried to wear latex gloves & dress wounds on others. You can hardly put a bandaid on before it gets stuck. The photos of the gloves made me think that even if they couldn't get fingerprints off the gloves I bet the duct tape has some physical evidence on it. This was NO suicide & the Feds need to go Mississippi Burning on Clay Co. now. Ky politics are so corrupt that we need the feds on this. This murder is so tragic.

3. I don't get the latex gloves reference
They're S.O.P. for evidence collection these days.

I do agree that "the Feds need to go Mississippi Burning on Clay Co.". Even without current court-admissible evidence that this was a hate crime, it ought to be handled as if it was one.

6. it's pretty simple
Adhesives stick like crazy to latex, and since latex gloves aren't even slightly rigid, you can't easily pull them free. If the killer wore gloves, he very well might have taken them off to apply the tape to Mr. Sparkaman's wrists.

From my understanding though, the body was out there for a good while. The prints, if any, likely would have deteriorated or been completely gone no matter what.

7. That makes sense
I was thinking that they were gloves the police/FBI used in evidence collection. But law enforcement people are pretty diligent about NOT altering crime scenes.

It's also possible that the perpetrators could have used a tape "gun" to truss up Mr. Sparkman (or his corpse). That would be easy to determine -- the ends of the tape strips would have a serrated cut pattern.

But this is all armchair quarterbacking on my part, and I've already bungled one "call".

I've learned to trust forensic investigators, though -- my grade-school sweetheart was hacked to death in the mid-80s (we were both about 28 at the time, and kept in contact) by her boyfriend, and it took until the advent of DNA analysis to prove that he did it. Between 1984 and 1999 (I think it was), nobody suspected him, but the investigator was a nerdly type, kept the wound and nailbed scrapings in a cryo Dewar, and matched the DNA to residue on his cigarette butts. I have great confidence -- unless the perps were extremely fastidious and "lucky" -- that the murder of Mr. Sparkman will be solved.

But it may take a while.

Until then, it should be handled like a hate crime. And thanks to the perverse suggestion of homophobes on the Right, not just anti-government hatred, but anti-gay hatred. If there is an "upside," it's that the public will be more sensitized to the epidemic of wingnut hate that has developed in the last few years.

4. Why are even our Progressives on MSNBC so very "afraid" to tackle this story FULLY?
Edited on Tue Sep-29-09 11:47 PM by ShortnFiery
I would much rather get to the bottom of this MURDER rather than "studying Sarah Palin's belly-button lint" or rage self-righteous about Roman Polansky.

Rachel? Keith Obermann? and Ed Schultz? GET ON IT!

8. What do you want them to "get on" with? Making up scenarios and hyping a situation before facts are
known? Perhaps FoxNews is more your style, then.
