HEre's my take on HCR. Those who want a public option do want to see their friends, neighbors or relatives go bankrupt or die because they cannot afford insurance. Those who do not want it, do not care. They are more concerned about having to pay a little more, losing their morning latte, or not being able to add those bells and whistles to their next new car. Say what you like, it boils down to that. I am 55, retired, and financially secure. I can afford the $1550/mo I have to pay for a catastrophic insurance policy since my wife got cancer in 2003. But, how many Americans can afford to pay prices like these? Most of my life, I didn't even make that much a month! I watched my premiums go from $500/mo to $1550/mo in six short years, just because my wife had the unfortunate experience of contracting the horrible disease of breast cancer. She was a lucky one...she survived. HAd this happened ten years earlier, I would have had to declare bankruptcy, even though I had insurance, just to pay my portion of the bills!
I do not want to see a single American have to go bankrupt because they get cancer or some other horrible life-threatening disease. They have too much to worry about already. Why opponents cannot see this is beyond me. Is it greed? Do they fear their own financial ruin? Are they not willing to give up a few of life's little luxuries so their friends, neighbors, or relatives might go through the unwanted horrors of disease or accidental injury?
Sure, they're quick to come up with excuses....and that's what they are...excuses. There is no excuse for allowing this to happen in America when other nations already take care of their own.
We will not give up......we will not compromise what MUST be done. We will win this one....write it down!
