The Party that cried "Health Care Reform"...

<rant>

The Democratic Party perpetually calls for health care reform election cycle after election cycle.

This will be the second time since the Great Society that Democrats will have had and squandered that opportunity.

As an campaign activist, field organizer, and sometime consultant I can assure the Party that the voters are growing weary of it crying wolf and using health care reform as an issue to energize voters and drive them to the polls.

If we don't do what we promised to do, why should they vote for us?

Why should they believe us?

We need to clean house.

We need to enforce some party discipline - party principles not lobbyist donations should be deciding our course.

Those in our party who have sold us out to their lobbyist donations like Senator Baucus and his friends need to be primaried.

NOW is the time for liberals in their states to stand up and be counted.

RUN for office. If you want something done right you have to do it yourself.

It IS possible in this day and age to build a grassroots campaign, go door to door, get on the ballot through the petition process and collect money through the internet via ActBlue and other means.

Even if you don't win you can make these turncoats sweat, you can make them pay for their disloyalty.

Don't let them run YOU out of the party - run THEM out instead.

1. HCR is to the Democrats what Immigration and Abortion is to the Republicans
And if they ever solved it, its one less thing to campaign on

6. I'm supporting Kendrick Meek for that job.
I know him personally and think he'll be a much better Senator than either Martinez or Nelson.

5. Actually, the third time -- there was also a debate in the early Nixon Administration:
what we got from it was a law allowing the national spread of HMOs. But there were Dem majorities in Congress then, as well as the prospect that Nixon might well have signed a health reform bill into law.

And, of course, the Great Society was also host to a health reform debate. Yes, we got Medicare and Medicaid from that one; but we DIDN'T get universal healthcare coverage.
