Breaking MSNBC: Discovery of Secret Iranian Nuclear Facility an Obama Admin Success
Edited on Wed Sep-30-09 12:56 PM by berni_mccoy
A Secret Iranian plant revealed by intelligence agencies is being touted as a success for the Obama Administration and a failure of the Bush administration for not discovering it.

The existence of this plant is bringing Russia, Europe and U.S. together on solving the Iranian Nuclear problem. They are saying this will likely bring China on board as well.

To Republicans: Obama Succeeds on Security and Intelligence while Bush was a miserable failure.

On Edit: to clarify: the plant has been known about by intelligence agencies for some time, but the success is the timing of the release and how the information is being used.

from the NY Times article on the subject:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/26/world/middleeast/26nuke.html?_r=2&hp

Mr. Obama said he had withheld making the intelligence public for months because it “is very important in these kind of high-stakes situations to make sure the intelligence is right”— a clear allusion to former President George W. Bush’s release of intelligence on Iraq seven years ago this month that proved baseless. Mr. Obama’s hand was forced, however, after Iran, apparently learning that the site had been discovered by Western intelligence, delivered a vague, terse letter to the International Atomic Energy Agency on Monday disclosing that it was building a second plant, one that it had never mentioned during years of inspections.

3. I can come up with several
ways the rW will spin this. They will never give Obama credit for anything. If they have to credit this success with stuff that Reagan did, they will. shit they'll give credit to Teddy Roosevelt before they give credit to Obama.

It's a sad day when the hatred runs so deep that successes in National Security are politicized.

4. Not really sure why should Obama get credit over something we have known about for years?
The intelligence community knew about this. The making of such a massive facility does not go un-noticed for years.

The Chinese have already said the existence of this site is no game changer them.

5. What they were discussing on MSNBC was the FUNCTION of the facility.
Do you have a reference to the knowledge of this facility priot to now?

Even if the facility was known, the news is that the facility is a weapons facility.

10. About the facility
It was a weapons facility before 05, then they decided to do uranium enrichment there. The MKO, Iranian exile group already came out with info on the site and its connection to the nuclear program years ago.

13. If it was known about for years
then why didn't BushCo jump up and down pointing and tooting his own horn? BushCo never missed an opportunity to take credit for finding out anything.

Fox News would be all over this as a big success for BushCo.

The desire for some here to diminish anything Obama does is simply depressing.

17. You may want to read my reply instead of declaring winners or losers
The fact is that we have known about that site for years and Iran decided to install uranium enrichment equipment there in 2005.

15. Because they were waiting for the completion of the site
and I am sure that we know more about Iran's nuclear program than we are revealing at this time. That information can be used as leverage later.

And as for claiming big success for BushCo, is not that the same thing MSNBC is doing with crediting Obama?

16. It's the timing of the release of the information and how it's being applied that are news
The Obama administration is actually using the intelligence to resolve the problem. From the NY Times article on the story:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/26/world/middleeast/26nuke.html?_r=2&hp

Mr. Obama said he had withheld making the intelligence public for months because it “is very important in these kind of high-stakes situations to make sure the intelligence is right”— a clear allusion to former President George W. 11. Is this from The Onion?
The US has known for quite a while about the existence of this facility and Obama was briefed about it after the election.

MSNBC should consider taking a cold shower to calm down their tingling leg syndrome.

19. Now who would have guessed a failure in the corrupt and evil BushCo administration?

They just didn't have the time for this, that's all. They were
too busy awarding emergency no-bid contracts to Cheneyburton. :eyes:
