Glenn Beck is an asshole. The things he says are malicious and wrong.


But this is simply not right people. I find no purpose in acting like this. It neither counters his insanity nor does it accomplish the goal of satire.

It's so outrageous it's hard to ignore. People understand the point right away, whether they agree or not, and it sticks to him, so people begin to watch for what he does, and how he makes false accusations without proof. No one believes it's true, and if they do they can google and see instantly that it's not.

One of the more clever and effective campaigns I can remember, actually. Reminds me of the Media Horse web site. It walks the line of bad taste, which means it gets attention.

And I'm very prudish when it comes to "if we have to sink to their level to win we lose" methods. I often make that argument. I just don't agree in this case. It's not an accusation, it's not making light of murder or rape, it's just turning an old comedy routine against an odious public figure. It's not exactly meant to be funny. It is meant to make a point and get attention. It does both very effectively.
