It was reported yesterday and is still being reported today that billions ($6.6 billion) in military aid intended to go to the Pakistani Military did not make it to the Pakistani military. Of the above mentioned sum only about $500 million made it to the military and that money was not used in the way the United States had wanted the money to be spent. Instead of using the money to fight against Al Queda the Pakistani military used the money to buy equipment to fight against India. The rest of the money was supposedly used by former president Pervez Musharraf to pay off allies to keep himself popular.
It was also reported that Congress has begun the process of tripling non-military funding to Pakistan and continuing to give military aid with some conditions. It seems to me that, in terms of military aid, the U.S. government needs to stop giving money to the Pakistani military. It seems that it would just be better to either use the money to help American troops deal with issues in that region or just buy the things the Pakistani military needs and them give those things to the military.
