Net neutrality rules face mounting GOP opposition
This is nasty. I can't tell you how many petitions I've
signed to protect net neutrality. I sure hope the FCC
doesn't cave... and that Kay Bailey's stupid hateful bill
goes nowhere.

1. Naturally. I do wish we could see the text of their strongly worded letter, though.

3. What GOP opposition?
They are irrelevant for the next 13 months.

Hopefully continues to be increasingly irrelevant in the next 24 months after that.

4. The Republicans know that if the war of ideas were fought on a level playing field,
they will lose the people, hands down.

If the Internet were two things; it would be A. the people and B. the most level playing field in existence, and this is intolerable to a cynical political party; having become accustomed to obtaining and maintaining power by manipulating the American People, via manipulating their information sources.

That is the primary reason, they're against Net Neutrality, they want to do to the Internet what's been done to every other major information source consolidate and corrupt.

Thanks for the thread, ananda.

10. ONe of the problems with Net Neutrality is that the Internet is private property
of a large number of network owners all cooperating. That makes some things hard to control and legislate. Sort of like the I CAN SPAM act. Idiots lawyers who do not understand the technology or the underpinnings of the Internet are trying to legislate behavior on it.
