32. a couple of days ago he was bragging on his radio show that he finally
got MM to agree to come on his show if he went to see MM's film which he laughingly said he would do...he went on and on and on and on about how wrong MM is and how insignificant..... I love that he is now getting his ass handed to him...I could not believe he even for a moment believed that he could talk trash and lies to MM and be able to stand up without getting knocked down..

UGH...I had an eight hour drive that day and only reg radio...I honestly attempted to find a fact based talking radio on am here in texas..silly me...but I decided to allow myself to listen...I did....omg..over and over again..him rush and beck...same thing over and over again..it was the day that the Olympic bid winner was announced...they went on and on and on about how thrilled they were that the messiah failed..

I have a feeling though that hanni ty got told to turn that tone around and so he added later that day that he was not exactly thrilled that we did not get the bid but he was not surprised ....I learned something..they do have daily talking points which are repeated by all of them over and over again..and I finally believe they are attempting mind control but I firmly believe that the only ones susceptible to such techniques at this point and time are out and out racists and bigots who want so much to believe such bs..

50. I never doubted it...I think what happened was that perhaps before that day that
I decided to subject myself to right winged hacks for eight hours that on his other shows I got the feeling that he had been telling his star struck racist bigoted audience that MM was scared enough of him that he refused to come on his show and then MM threw down the gauntlet and accepted with the terms being Hanity had to watch his movie first..

I find it humorous that his audience would even begin to believe MM scared of hanity...but apparently they believed him enough that he convinced himself that he was more than a match for MM when he realized he could not turn down the offer since he had been acting as if MM was scared of facing his um mm style of talking facts...

I did not watch tonight..have rachel on but I hope all his loyalists dogs watched him squirm....I wonder how he will explain that on his radio show..but I am not going to be driving again alone for a while so will not be listening to find out..

I recall though he would simply hang up on anyone that did not agree with him after a few seconds of pretending to allow them air time.he never addressed their remarks back with facts..he would simply end up with...I don't have time for that garbage and go to next caller..lol..what a weasle..left wing hosts always give the same style callers more time..what a coward..

and rush hog as far as I heard never took opposition callers...cowards the lot of them

except the little one with the glasses..can't recall his name..

had a rental once with sirius and forty six was not working.ended up listening to one of faux but I could not handle the bs any more and called in and um mm told em...i was let through..shock...thought they hung up on me so I hung up and then I heard on the radio the lady that answered my call calling my name telling me to please call back...the host said to her why..she said back to him that she liked that I argued with him.and she laughed but he was not amused too bad..but grandchildren arrived and me time was over...

Without going to Wikipedia, can you describe in laymens' terms what a Credit Default Swap is?

I don't expect Hannity has any real clue, I'm just wondering if you do, since you brought them up.

CDS are instruments where people take "insurance" on their positions - both for and against - as a hedge.

BTW, How the hell does one put up an average of 30 posts a day for 30 days?

I've been here for a little over 6 years and I've averaged less than three posts a day.

It astounds me when a poster to this board racks up such an astounding number of posts in such a short time. You must be very succinct.

73. Believe me, I can relate to "bored out of my mind". I mean no disrespect.
Edited on Tue Oct-06-09 10:19 PM by A HERETIC I AM
Easiest laymens' definition;

To call it "Insurance" is a misnomer. To be the beneficiary of an insurance policy one has to have an insurable interest. This is an important distinction because in a CDS, the purchaser does not have to have an insurable interest. To define a bit further, I can not take out a Life Insurance policy on a random homeless person with tuberculosis that has a life expectancy of 6 months and expect to collect on his demise. This hypothetical homeless person has no bearing on my life, is not related to me and therefore I can in no way expect to simply gamble or profit on his/her death.

A Credit Default Swap is really what it's name implies. i/e the "swap" of risk, since credit is essentially risk.

Using a CDS can mitigate risk to a holder of a debt instrument by providing the offering party an avenue of recovery should said debt instrument held by the offering party fail to make timely payments or not settle at par. The party making payments, the "counter-party" profits only if the instrument or security suffers a default or a downgrade in credit quality. The recipient of the payments agrees to make such settlement to the party making the payments only if those circumstances come about.

It is a swap of risk. An agreement entered into by two parties, both of whom see an advantage to the agreement.

Ruby, this is by no means directed at you and your simple question, but many times on this board I have read posts by various individuals who seem to suggest that the entirety of all such instruments amount to (insert the multiple billions/trillions here) and that they will all settle at face value to the ruin of us all.

It's poppycock.

Imagine the sum total of all the life insurance policies, the entire insurable amount of every auto liability, fire, flood, casualty, personal injury, workplace liability and any other policy you could imagine that is presently in effect. Imagine them all coming payable tomorrow. Not bloody likely, is it?

Same is the case with the CDS sleeve. Not all will settle. Most will expire worthless. Some will settle for the par value of the instrument and some will settle for much less. To suggest this particular area of the financial industry will be the death of us all is utter nonsense. Many on this message board seem convinced it is so, however.

71. Hmmm....Sean Hannity interviewing a guy who made a movie called "Shooting Michael Moore"
A liar interviewing someone who appears to be trying to incite violence against Moore with the very title of his film? Your video is not made for the open minded.

60. A couple of Irish Catholics trying to claim the higher moral ground
One worried about social justice, the other obsessed with money and abortion. That should be pay per view.

67. Why? If Michael Moore contests the validity of the interview
because of edits, it makes it worse for FAUX.

Hannity, as a rich man, and himself, as rich man, is that he, Hannity, does not want the current, economic structures changed, in order for the general public to be able to share in the country's wealth. He, Michael Moore does. He does not see it as being against his own best interests, in view of the Second Commandment. Hannity, on the other hand, is well described by Smith as one of those who want: "All for ourselves, and nothing for other people." Mike should have pointed out to Hannity that he was only echoing the theme of the Pope's most recent encyclical, Caritas in Veritate.

Charitable donations are all well and good but it is the extremely unjust, economic structures which need to be changed, as Pope Benedict advocates. Otherwise, to quote Jesus, it is "straining at a gnat, only to swallow a camel". Hannity or a clone will then come back, raving about Communism - to which Mike should respond with a reference to the famous quote of the late Archbishop of Recife, Brazilian, Dom Helder Camara: "When I give to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why they are hungry, they call me a Communist." Moreover, the Vatican hardly has a reputation as a pillar of left-wing politics.

Then he should summarise very pithily the points Smith made about income tax and the wealth of the country being equitably shared.
Not so that everyone should earn the same amount. That's not necessary. What is necessary is that people should have an ample sufficiency, so that they can live with dignity and have some disposable income. The absence of the latter has been one of the main causes of the man-made credit bubble and economic depression.

Below, is an extract from an article by Rick Wilson in Common Dreams concerning Adam Smith's precepts on this subject:

"First, while he (Smith) celebrated truly competitive capitalism, he didn't trust capitalists very much. Consider these quotes:
· "All for ourselves, and nothing for other people, seems, in every age of the world, to have been the vile maxim of the masters of mankind."

(snip)

Second, he believed that workers deserve a living wage:
· "It is but equity ... that they who feed, clothe and lodge the whole body of the people, should have such a share of the produce of their own labor as to be themselves tolerable well fed, clothed and lodged."

Third - and here's a real shocker - he believed that the wealthy should pay more in taxes:
"The subjects of every state ought to contribute toward the support of the government, as nearly as possible, in proportion to their respective abilities; that is, in proportion to the revenue which they respectively enjoy under the protection of the state."
Fourth, he believed in the necessity of public investments in infrastructure and public goods. He spoke of the duty of government to support "public institutions and those public works, which, though they may be in the highest degree advantageous to a great society, are, however, of such a nature that the profit could never repay the expense to any individual or small number of individuals, and which it therefore cannot be expected that any individual or small number of individuals should erect or maintain."

If he were alive today, he would probably consider education and health care as examples of this kind of public goods.

Smith and his Scottish Enlightenment allies were not ideologues and were better psychologists than those today who view humans as organic calculating machines. They were pretty, well, enlightened. They recognized that a good society and a healthy capitalist economy depended on a shared prosperity."

If Hannity had asked him why he didn't just sell his homes, buy cheap ones and give the money as a super-tax to charity, he should tell him that St Philip Neri used to pray, "Oh, Lord, do not trust me, for I will betray you." As for his expensive homes, he should say he didn't ask for a hair shirt. Just an appropriate level of income tax.

84. I personally did that back in 2003 just before the Iraq war calling him on it on his radio program
Hannity isn't very smart and fails when forced to apply actual facts and logic to a problem.

He's easy pickings for any progressive that has a spine.

85. Whose opinion is Hannity going to respect? Dick Cheney's or Jesus's?
Jesus stresses in Matthew's Gospel that the Second Commandment is not negotiable. Dick Cheney says the same about the so-called American Dream.
