Photo surfaces of Tony Perkins (Head of Family Research Council) at CofCC meeting
Back in 2005, it was reported that Tony Perkins, now President of the Family Research Council, "paid former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke $82,500 for his mailing list. At the time, Perkins was the campaign manager for a right-wing Republican candidate for the US Senate in Louisiana."

Shortly thereafter, FRC released a statement refuting the assertion.

A year later, it was reported that on two occasions, Perkins had addressed the racist Council of Conservative Citizens:

"The Boston Herald reported in an October 16, 2006, article, "In 2001, gave a speech at a meeting of the Council of Conservative Citizens, which the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) considers a hate group." Indeed, a Fall 2004 article in the SPLC's Intelligence Report asserted that Perkins "spoke to the Louisiana Council of Conservative Citizens on May 19, 2001," during his tenure as a Louisiana state legislator. The SPLC characterizes the CCC as a "white nationalist" organization, and has reported that the group is "the reincarnation of the racist White Citizens Councils of the 1950s and 1960s." The CCC declares in its statement of principles:

We also oppose all efforts to mix the races of mankind, to promote non-white races over the European-American people through so-called "affirmative action" and similar measures, to destroy or denigrate the European-American heritage, including the heritage of the Southern people, and to force the integration of the races."

Since Perkins claims that he "cannot remember speaking at the event," maybe this photo that recently surfaced online will help to jog his memory:

D'oh!

29. Me either
Anyone who doesn't realize racism, homophobia and other forms of bigotry go hand in hand hasn't been paying attention. The people screaming about The Homosexual Agenda are the same ones yelling for us to "seal the borders" and other such BS. The only time those "pro-family" groups cozy up to anybody who isn't a White Fundamentalist Christian is when they want something from them.

2. The RNC claims to renounce any association with this group
It was about 8 years ago or so, back when Jim Nicholson was Chairman. This could very well end Perkins' career in politics.

17. Ironic considering that . . .
CofCC is an organization that is nostalgic about the treasonous Confederacy. A couple years ago when Senator Russ Feingold called for a censure of George W. Bush for breaking the law in authorizing warrantless domestic eavesdropping, Perkins called Feingold's actions "borderline treasonous behavior": http://mediamatters.org/research/200603140006

19. Thanks for posting this
Mr Perkins is advertising a silent auction for life here in Baton Rouge. Have to check with them on how they feel about this. It probably won't bother them too much I guessing. I save the pic just in case!
Would you mind if I send this to other southern blogs?

21. So I have to wonder how many of those on David Duke's mailing list....
have infiltrated the Republican party in southern states, and are now active politically? This would explain many of the Teabaggers, John Birchers and 912ers, as well as the Birthers questioning Obama's birthplace. Clearly, they GOP has been taken over by these fringe elements who now have found a political home. Pity the GOP.

23. The Conservative Christian movement has implict and explicit racism
and I'm sure that even if Perkins was not a racist (which I doubt, but even giving him that benefit of the doubt) - he realized that racism and nationalism were a great source for his mailings.

25. Thus, Perkins is not a reliable expert on social issues as he thinks he is
This photo and fact he once donated to a former Klansman tells much about his character. Along with all the stupid homophobic remarks and phony "research" he conducts with his misnamed organization.
