These guys couldn't hit the side of a barn.

In this great country of ours, populated with wise, thoughtful and compassionate citizens, guns should be welcome EVERYWHERE! :sarcasm:

34. Not a bit, ... if you are going to carry arms.. at least let me know so
I can choose not to stand too close to you.

Concealed carry .. I have asked this a dozen times, why carry concealed? If you are going to carry, be open about it.

I am not afraid of guns per se. My Dad had guns, I was around them. But I am afraid of people who feel the need to carry concealed.

36. That is very irrational
They are statistically among the least likely people to hurt you.

It is super irrational to be afraid of a group that is very very unlikely to cause a problem for you.

It is like walking to the other side of the street because a rabbit is on one side. People have been bit by rabbits and some rabbits have rabies, but the risk is irrelevantly small.

To get my CCW I had to:

Pass the same FBI background check that a police recruit does. Requires squeaky clean record.
Be fingerprinted.
Take and pass a class on self-defense law. (Basic)
Take and pass a class on firearms. (Basic)
Pass the same range qualification, live fire, that most police officer do. (I scored 250 out of a possible 250.)
Spend a couple of hundred dollars.

Given that I have been as heavily screened as a policeperson, why are you afraid of me? Statistics show that CCW holders are about 4 times safer than the police, and more law-abiding.

Further, the video is of criminals shooting, not of legal CCW holders.

Drinking and guns don't mix, but a person can go into a bar for reasons other than to drink.

16. About twenty years ago, there was an incident in Chicago
where a Hostess truck driver and a taxi driver got into an argument over a traffic accident. The cab driver hurled insults. The truck driver hurled Twinkies and Ho Ho's. The cab driver threw them back.

It was stupid, but very funny. It would not have been so funny if they had had guns.

FWIW, I live in the country. We have guns. We hunt. But I don't believe every idiot under the sun should be carrying a weapon for "protection."

Usually, I try to stay out of these things. But I still laugh over the Twinkie and Ho-Ho battle.

18. No, but this video is evidence of why some law-abiding folks wish to carry where alcohol is served

The bad guys already are.

Actually, in most states licensed or permitted folks are only allowed to carry in restaurant/bars where >50% of the revenue is produced through food and not straight up bars like the one in the video.

Either way, no state that I know of allows drinking while carrying.

23. I'm a legal carrier and I like to go to my fav Italian restaurant without leaving my gun in my car.

And I like to got to bars to listen to live music (as well as drink). But if I were permitted to carry in bars (not just restaurants that serve alcohol), I wouldn't drink while I was carrying. In fact, I don't drink anywhere while I am carrying (bars, restaurants, block party, etc).

26. That makes utterly no sense at all.

Let's see. I think I made need to defend myself and family at home should a violent intruder break in -- don't go home?

I understand the advice of avoiding physical confrontation and violent situation while carrying, but one of the reasons why people carry all the time is that no one really knows when they'll need to have a firearm handy.

30. True in part
also true that there are places more dangerous than others. A bar at 2 in morning. High crime areas in your city. Now if my concern is to survive and be safe, I'll carry most every place i go. I will also stay away , best as possible, from the more dangerous areas.
I try to get every thing done during daylight hours. I can't always, but I'm safer if I do. Much more likely to be confronted by a carjacker or a crazy drunk after 11pm. In my home I now have a save room(with my gun safe in it), if an intruder came in I'd, to the best of my ability, retreat to it and call police. For me gun fights would be the last resort. I've know people that have shot someone in self defense and it was a nightmare for them and cost a ton of money in lawyers. I'm older now(60) and I hope a lot wiser than in my youth. So, I look at why I'm armed. I'm armed to keep safe and alive. Carrying a fire arm is only a small part of that goal.

27. Because the Arizona legislature recently approved.....
and Brewster allowed the bill to take effect. Napolitano vetoed the 'guns in bars' bill when it was passed the legislature while she was governor.

If a bar doesn't have one of those signs posted, anyone with a concealed carry permit can bring their gun in a bar but may not drink alcohol. But how does anyone know if a person is carrying if it's concealed?

14. I guess you'd be comfortable saying, if you've ever been in a bar, that you'd never been in one
where a gang member was present.

No gun law is going to keep thug punks from carrying guns into bars. It happened yesterday, it happened today, and it'll happen tomorrow. Bars where punks and thugs make up the majority of patrons would be a likely place to encounter such an outburst.

If you're so bothered by it, make sure you only go into bars with metal detectors at the entrance, or don't go into bars at all.

Since I saw this video on CNN this morning, I've been looking up CCW in bars laws in Ohio.

http://www.ohiomuskingumsheriff.org/concealed/proplaces.html
Prohibited Places
#14: Any room/open air arena where D liquor permit issued (2923.121)(liquor consumed on premises)

It appears as if everyone carrying these guns was already breaking the law. Its actually shows that the bad guys will carry guns even if prohibited by law and law abiding restaurant/bar customers may have some good reasons to carry a firearm for self-defense purposes.

Or is this website out of date?

19. last month in my small town, a group of gun aficionados met to pursue gun rights
they want to carry in town. They met on the beach, in a park full of people. They were supposed to bring their guns unloaded, but one of them brought his loaded and it went off and people all over the beach and park ran for cover. No one was hurt, but it doesnt help their case much at all.

21. This video shows people engaged in criminal acts
it sounds as if in Ohio it is illegal to carry a gun into a bar, I would be willing to bet tat none of the guns were being carried by a CCW holder. Now does anyone have a plan to keep thugs and gangsters from carrying guns into bars (or anywhere else for that matter)? Wait, I've got it...the "no guns" signs most states have adopted only apply to legal ccw holders. There needs to be another sign directed at criminals, thugs, and gangsters...problem solved!!!1!1!!

Shooting inside and then going outside to shoot inside. Most people with a brain that made it out would have got the hell out of Dodge.
Not those fools they get out and start shooting inside. Alcohol and guns don't mix. Hell some people shouldn't drink at all.

35. Some in here, when I rail occasionally against concealed carry..
Edited on Sun Oct-11-09 10:45 AM by Peacetrain
the first thing they come up with, is that I am irrational and afraid of guns. The truth is 180. Guns do not scare me. But concealed carry, ummmmm not too thrilled with it.

Concealed carry for police, people doing work as bank delivery etc, part and parcel of their job.

If I see someone with a gun, I may choose not too stand to close. But heh, guess what, I had a choice.

But concealed carry, especially in places that serve alcohol. makes me nervous.
