1. Why would anyone want to shoot ducks? I mean, they're friendly with people and mate for life.
Why shoot them?

2. I don't get it either.
Then again, I don't get killing any living thing for fun.

6. I had ducks - they're great
Two of them, a male and female were hatched from eggs on an electric blanket in the house. After that, they followed me around and thought I was their mother. The male loved lettuce hearts and would fly straight up in the air and suspend himself like a helicopter to beg for the treat. The female could catch bits of lettuce with her beak when I threw it. The ducks found a way to open the back door with their beaks when I left it slightly ajar. Several times I would come home from the store (in those days, we left our doors unlocked without thinking about it) to find a bunch of quacking ducks in the living room to greet us (led by the two ringleaders who were born in the house). They are friendly and funny animals.

7. We had a couple, quite a few years ago, in property with a swimming pool
Gotta say, it was unswimmable while the ducks were there....
