Politically, Obama has only two viable options. Start a reduction, with a plan to end the war OR go in whole hog with whatever numbers McChrystal requests.

This McChrystal Light-Middle Way is the worst political decision he can make. He will lose the anti-war Left, and every point of deterioration in the future will be points of attack from the right for not "listening to the generals".

You may argue that it should not be a political decision, but don't fool yourself. America has used war as policy for generations.
