"Apparently some principles are just more important than others."
All day long, I kept hearing the argument that pro-choice Democrats are going to have to compromise because Pelosi just doesn't have the votes otherwise. But the truth is that she doesn't have the votes without the pro-choice caucus either. Why isn't it just as reasonable to say that Stupak and his crowd should compromise? I hear people say over and over again that Democrats will prove they can't govern if they hold the line on this or that provision and risk tanking the bill. But these Stupak Democrats did it --- and they won.

It's very telling that with all this talk about how pro-choice women can't be stubborn about their little needs, there is nobody out there complaining that Stupak and his crowd are making the perfect the enemy of the good. He and the other "pro-life" Democrats are commonly and without criticism portrayed as voting for their principles, as if they have no choice in the matter. (Indeed, the whole argument over funding is defined by the fact that "pro-life" advocates apparently cannot be forced to pay taxes for something that goes against their principles.

Apparently some principles are just more important than others.

11. Yeah, well, it goes against MY principles
to send our military half way around the world to kill people just because they have something we want.
What do you think my chances are of finding someone to sponsor a bill to keep from spending any of my or anyone elses tax dollars to do that would be?

12. Stupak hasn't won anything.
Most Democrats passed the House bill IN SPITE of his amendment because they know it will be taken out by Conference Committee.

I would be very surprised if it is in any form of reconciled legislation. (if the Senate passes a bill)
