Lieberman: Liberal Enthusiasm Convinced Me To Oppose Medicare Buy-In

In an interview with the New York Times, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) revealed Tuesday that he decided to oppose a Medicare buy-in in part because liberals like Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) liked it too much.
n the interview, Mr. Lieberman said that he grew apprehensive when a formal proposal began to take shape. <...>
And he said he was particularly troubled by the overly enthusiastic reaction to the proposal by some liberals, including Representative Anthony Weiner, Democrat of New York, who champions a fully government-run health care system.

1. So he's blaming progressives/liberals, and doesn't give a shit
about the millions his non-vote affected. Got it, Joe. I hope it eventually bites him in the ass and he's forced to exit DC in shame. He deserves no less.

4. He is a complete clown, idiot and dark force.
He was supposed to represent the people in his district, not his crappy sense of payback.

So, we should all be pretending we HATE this idea in order to get him to support it?

He has the opportunity to help millions of people, but he's turning it into a personal vendetta. I have nothing but contempt for him.

10. I called Harry Reid's office
and told the staffer that it would be far better for Harry to put Lieberman in a straight jacket and lock him in a closet until voting on health care is over than to allow a cretin like Lieberman to destroy it.

12. Harry probably agrees with and likes Joe. He thinks Joe is providing him with "cover."
That is what it looks like to me.

We never hear about Loserman until something big threatens the big donors of both parties and they need somebody to take the fall.

Threating a vote or non-vote just to spite liberals is not representing your constituents.

11. Safe to assume that Obama agrees with Joe, unless he opposes Joe on this.
Edited on Tue Dec-15-09 03:15 PM by Dr Fate
Does he?

I have not heard anything about Obama insisting that Joe, Blue Dogs, etc. compromise with Weiner, I've only heard news about Obama insisting that DEMS compromise with Joe.

If I'm to judge people by their ACTIONS- then it looks like Obama respects & honors Joe's opinion more than Weiner's.

20. Bite your tongue (or your keyboard)
I know where you're coming from but jesus, bush not so bad?

Loserman would have been in a position where he could do very little damage.

Unless Gore were to pass away in which case I can't even think about it.

14. I knew he'd take this angle
He is trying to blame liberals for it, scapegoating us even though the decision was 100% his.

Conservative Democrats love to do this. They think making a show of betraying liberals wins them votes. Heck, the "moderates" do it, too.

18. Centrists always blame their failures (which are legion) on a Liberal boogie man.
Edited on Tue Dec-15-09 03:37 PM by Dr Fate
In 2010, it will be the fault of Pro-Reform Liberals that anti-reform centrists & moderates did not come out in droves to campaign, donate to & support anti-reform candidates/platforms.

On edit- This is the argument & blame game that conservative DEMS will use, this is not my argument.

24. By bad- I usually put "centrist" in quotes. You are right- My agenda is very transparent.
Edited on Tue Dec-15-09 03:41 PM by Dr Fate
I openly oppose conserative Democrats & "centrists" like Joe.

I'm transparent about that- much more transparent than the DLC, who refuses to even publish their membership list.

You are right- I have an agenda- to expose & somehow diminish the power of Blue Dogs, DLCers, "centrists", whatever they are calling themselves this week.

Feel free to search my entire post history if you really want to know what my "agenda" concerning conservative DEMS is.

I'm not sure what your point is- I thought we were basically in agreement. Seems like you read my post wrong.

I have been here a long time, and ever since my beginning, there was a Dr. Fate going after the DLC-types.

I ought to know, considering that in those early days there were so few who even knew about the DLC, and so like-minds were welcome in my readings.

Well, I never bought the argument in the first place. Turning around and berating those that have no power when all the cards were in your hand is psychological abuse.

Votes are earned, not expected.

...or else he'd have every reason to obstruct and vote with the Republicans?

And that would be different....how?

25. It's called getting PUNKED.
Obama & the conservative DEMS basically punked their own base-who made their feelings & warnings about Joe clear from the get-go.

At least that is how it looks right now.
