3. Wow. Two seconds ago I asked my son if anybody he knows
has seen it because I'm debating doing the unheard of and venturing to a theater.

4. Go for broke.
We saw it at a 3D Imax theater, because we're kind of the same and don't hit the theater scene but maybe once or twice a year.

Worth every penny on the big pop-up screen.

10. Go see it in 3D
It's a good movie. Not in my Top 25, but the 3D is done perfectly...

11. And if you have the option for 3D IMAX, go for it....
It was visually stunning! I knew people who had no interest in the story, and I kept telling them they should see it just for the isual effects. It was phenomenal in that respect!

16. It's worth seeing for the visual effects alone.

6. Absolutely fascinating movie. I didn`t want it to end.
I have to say though that I had a hard time adjusting to the feeling of being in the movie. My blood pressure skyrocked so bad at the beginning that my ears popped. I had to keep closing my eyes until I adjusted to that wierd ass feeling. But, LOVED the movie!!

7. I have been reading about 3D moies since I saw it....
Edited on Sun Jan-03-10 08:21 PM by Lisa0825
The new 3D technology is MILES AWAY from the old 2-color paper glasses, where you could see "ghost" images on the screen and nothing was really totally in focus. It looked so real that I felt like I really was there... I am not talking about 3D gags like an arrow coming right at you, but the little details, like a fern frond passing nearby or the embers from a fire falling right in front of you. I really got lost in the scenery, and the characters looked so real (as opposed to makeup or previous generations of cgi) that I never had that familiar fleeting feeling of "OH, that was SO fake" like in other movies.

Anyway, in the article I read recently (but didn't save the link... I'll have to look for it again), it mentioned that many people interviewed talked about wanting to "go back to Pandora." They felt like it was a place they actually went and it was so beautiful that they missed it. I wouldn't go quite that far, but as soon as I left, I wanted to see it again. It really was amazingly beautiful. So someone in this article surmised that 3D done this well stimulated your senses in such a way that it made it feel more like a memory to you, as opposed to just a movie, and that is why people had the feeling of "wanting to go back." I find that idea pretty interesting.

edited to add:
This is not the same article I mentioned, but similar comments.... http://sffmedia.com/films/science-fiction-films/352-camerons-avatar-a-3d-drug-trip.html

12. Was special eyewear required for the 3D effects?
If not, then I imagine it might play fairly well on BlueRay and HDTV...

Of course nothing is like Imax or the theater.. but still.

13. Yes, but they were more like sunglasses, not the cheesey 2-tone glasses.
The articles I read talked about bringing 3D to TV too. I imagine with HDTV and BluRay, it would be pretty good, thought it could not match the big screen experience.

There are a LOT of new 3D movies coming out. I really think it is going to be much more mainstream now as opposed to a novelty like before.

The movie I am most looking forward to is Alice in Wonderland in 3D, with Johnny Depp as the Hatter!!!

15. Thanks! So, do they pass them out and collect them, or do you get to keep them?
The special glasses, that is...

:P

new 3D movies on the calendar, they expect that people will start to bring their own glasses. (The previews before Avatar were for at least 5 new major 3D release movies)

I would bet you could probably find them for sale online already.

8. Frustrating for me
I only make use of one eye, so these "have to put on binocular glasses" are very frustrating to say the least. I won't waste my time but I do look forward to it being on DVD as non-3D.

Also, hopefully it's still worth something without cheap tricks that require funny glasses.

9. It is also being shown in regular theaters....
but the 3D effects really were part of the experience, so I can't say it would be as good that way.

14. If you can, see it in Imax. Much more effective than regular screen 3d.
I've seen it both ways.
