Any other single DU'ers annoyed by the constant stream of match.com, eharmony.com, etc. ads
this time of year?

"Maybe this is your year to meet someone"..bla bla bla...

"this is where hasn't met the right guy meets maybe the right guy".. yeah right..

These companies are preying on people's loneliness and unhappiness this time of year and they alway crank it up to insane levels right at New Year's day and right afterwards.

:eyes:

1. Annoying, indeed, but in line with most other ads: they make us feel inadequate.
And make us think that buying their product will make us more complete.

Of course these hit a little more deeply.

2. Glad I don't watch much TV, then.
Being alone during the holiday season is hard enough without being reminded of it.

3. I am still trying to figure out what a BBW is,
Edited on Sun Jan-03-10 09:35 PM by Sen. Walter Sobchak
I get a lot of those ads right here,

Since I can apparently "click here" to meet the "BBW of my Dreams", I have also been getting one for Indian arranged marriages. In 2010 your parents can pick your wife online I guess.

11. The holidays are the worst time to meet someone anyway. At least in my experience.
Most women aren't ready for you to 'meet the family' in the first few dates. Well, from Thanksgiving to New Years, all there is, is family stuff. Schedules are hectic. Family from out of town is visiting. Preparations have to be made. It sucks.

Yeah, they are definitely playing you with the ads. I bet enrollment surges like mad during the holidays.

I'm single, but I'm hanging back for a while getting it together. I dumped my last GF a few months ago. Of course, I'm still legally married......

14. Been single my entire life, can't say the ads have ever bothered me.
I don't buy the "you need someone else to make you complete". I am alone but not lonely and I prefer my own company to most people I know or have met. It keeps my life simple and I like simple.

15. No more annoying than other stuff.
But I chuckle at the ads for the ED pills. Hey, if they work so good why are they in separate bathtubs, y'know?

I'm more annoyed by the emails that offer to help me with 'male enhancement' -- I mean, really. . .

24. I have a theory about the separate bathtubs.
Mr. ED has taken so many boner pills that he has one of those permanent erections that they have to warn you about and his wife now refuses to be close enough to him for action.

But I have enough trouble just getting the cooler chairs umbrellas towels etc. to the beach. I just can't begin to imagine the effort behind lugging two bathtubs over the sand.

16. Just like the job sites, which seem to be to sell resume writing services
and for the purveyors of pyramid schemes to say they saw your resume and think you are the bomb.

And like those who go after aspiring authors, trying to get them to spend money in the hope of getting published.

They prey on people's hopes and dreams.

Disgusting and I hope they never make a dime. I'd never spend a dime on any of it.

30. eHarmony
They are also very anti-gay. I believe it took a court order for them to allow homosexuals to use their site. Even if I were into dating sites I would avoid eHarmony at all costs.

23. If you're refering to TV , I hear it but don't watch it
My wife watches certain programs and I hear the ad's . All drive me insane. most of all the fellows they have that went to ITT tech school . I have walked past the TV and saw them , they look like someone who had their brain removed with an electrolux. Then all the ask you doctor if this pill is right for you and one wonders with the list of side affects who would risk it.

The dating and car insurance ad's all drive me nut's , I can't recall one ad that has not.

25. Simple answer, Netflix. Netflix with Roku even better
I haven't been able to stomach commercial T.V. for years. I simply don't watch it just because I will not spend 20 minutes of every hour bombarded with "Be Afraid". Be afraid your teeth arent white enough, be afraid your dicks not hard enough, be afraid, be afraid, be afraid. But, if you use our crap product that was made by slave labor in China, you need fear no more. Except the crap works about as well as praying to Jesus that you will finally get laid.

I just say no. If I really have to see a program, Burn Notice comes to mind, I'll Tivo it so I can fast forward the time sink.

28. This time of year is always glutted with "meet someone" ads, "get fit" ads, "lose weight" ads,
"quit smoking" ads, etc. Someone's idea of a way to capitalize on the dopey tradition of the New Year's resolution. Oh, and then there are the ads with people saying "MY New Year's resolution is to save money..."...etc., etc., etc.

So dull.

How do they know how miserable I am??

34. They annoy me because I no longer feel any desire to "couple up"
on any kind of permanent basis. Once loneliness turns to solitude, you only want the "mate" there long enough to do things...then you want them to just fucking go.
