It seems my last remaining grandmother might be in her final days and hours.
She's given us scares before and pulled through, but the doctors where she lives is bringing family members home so...Anyone who does so; if you could just help me pray they be peaceful and pain free, I'd consider myself in your debt. Ninety eight years old. A life well lived.

20. Thanks Soylent. just feeling guilty now. Haven't seen her much since my wedding ten years ago.
2 and a half hours away may not sound like much, but when you're stuck with shitty jobs and shitty vehicles, it's a hard trip to make frequently.

37. i totally understand.
my grandma lives 2 1/2 hrs away in Indianapolis. didn't visit her much for years. then my grandfather passed away (they are divorced and he had been living in FL for years) i realized i may need to start making that 2 1/2 hr trip a little more often.

it sucks when you can't afford it, but the regrets are enough to motivate you to find a way.

hang in there, man.

19. You know the worst part of this? I don't even know what to say to my own father.
Haven't called him yet. Man never taught us how to be emotional toward him.

22. sometimes people don't know how to show emotion--because they weren't ever taught, either.
I don't know how you can go about it, but you may be the one to have to show him. it's hard, believe me, I know, but sometimes worth the effort.

23. Sometimes good surprises come at times like this.
Call your Dad and tell him the news. Perhaps (it could happen) he will respond and you guys could start talking.

46. Kids teach their parents things all the time

Maybe this is one of those. If you want more, call him. Don't ask for any emotion, just talk. Ask him what people were like, what his life was like when he was small, things that you can't find out any other way. Maybe you won't get what you want, but you might get what you need.

Be patient...

98 years is some accomplishment, and what an amazing time to live through. About the time my grandmother passed I heard the stories of her and others coming to Oklahoma on trains, riding in horse drawn wagons, early 1900's. Your grandmother got to be part of some amazing history.

Our thoughts are with you...

48. shadow, I have known people who had near death experiences
including my father. They say it is so peaceful, so totally loving, so wonderful to leave that they hate to come back. They are enveloped in love and protection and people they love are waiting for them. I wish you peace and the sureity that your dear grandma is enveloped in love right now and forever.
