Dems intend to bypass GOP on health compromise
House and Senate Democrats intend to bypass traditional procedures when they negotiate a final compromise on health care legislation, officials said Monday, a move that will exclude Republican lawmakers and reduce their ability to delay or force politically troubling votes in both houses.

The unofficial timetable calls for final passage of the measure to remake the nation's health care system by the time President Barack Obama delivers his State of the Union address, probably in early February.

Democratic aides said the final compromise talks would essentially be a three-way negotiation involving top Democrats in the House and Senate and the White House, a structure that gives unusual latitude to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California. These officials said there are no plans to appoint a formal House-Senate conference committee, the method Congress most often uses to reconcile differing bills. Under that customary format, a committee chairman is appointed to preside, and other senior lawmakers from both parties and houses participate in typically perfunctory public meetings while the meaningful negotiations occur behind closed doors.

In this case, the plan is to skip the formal meetings, reach an agreement, then have the two houses vote as quickly as possible. A 60-vote Senate majority would be required in advance of final passage.

2. Why 60 in the Senate?
I thought that, at this stage of the game, only a simple majority would be required.

3. No, if anything in the bill changes in conference with the House it is subject, again, to filibuster
before the vote for final passage.

10. Then what we get will be purely a Democratic bill, mandates, "Cadillac" plan taxes and all.
There will be no room for doubt when this thing passes who got what they wanted.

11. Our Ins. just changed
and I, frankly, don't know how I will afford it.
I have to pay a 750 buck deductible and if there is something catastrophic, I gotta pay 3 grand.
I really cannot afford it.
If I get pneumonia again and have to stay in the hospital, I wont be able to pay...and I have insurance thru my work.
So this bullshit that our "change I can believe in" president has made my families lives worse, not better.

I cant even see my doctor because I cant afford the visit, it used to be 25 now it's 75, till I pay the deductible.

I really hope the kids dont get sick, or me, as my wife has been unemployed for a year now.

I guess I'll just wait till I have to go to the ER...then lose my house...God let my kids stay healthy...

12. That's the only way to work with the party of no.
Just tell them no thanks, we don't want to hear it. They'll be outraged no matter what the Democrats do.
