Please don't start threads with comments about unrecs!

It very often detracts from the importance of an issue to see the first comment, or often the first 30 comments, be about some anonymous person 'unreccing' the OP. When I click on a post about people dying in Haiti, and the first post is about an unrec, I can't help but think (and that visitors to the website must think) we're a bunch of petty lounge chair whiners.

Personally, I don't care about unrecs, and paying attention to them WILL NOT change anyone's behavior.

Sometimes threads are forwarded, or linked at other websites. People clicking on those links don't care about unrecs, or even know what they are.

I personally find complaining about unrecs more annoying than the unrecs.

Can we begin a matter of etiquette not to discuss unrecs at the beginning of a thread? I'd suggest not discussing them at all, but that might be asking too much.

EDIT: I'M SEEING SOME VERY CYNICAL REPLIES, WHICH SEEM TO IMPLY THAT IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO CREATE A STANDARD OF ETIQUETTE ON THE INTERNET. I AM REMINDED OF TYPING IN ALL-CAPS. IT'S CONSIDERED 'YELLING' AND IS NOT OFTEN SEEN BECAUSE IT'S UNSEEMLY, UNACCEPTABLE, AND WILL USUALLY BE MET WITH REBUKES. IT'S ENTIRELY POSSIBLE TO START A CONVENTION OF POSTING THAT WILL CATCH ON. OTHERWISE, I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY TO CYNICS.

2. You're right, but nothing is more important to a whiner than whining.

It's rude for anyone to jump into a thread just started and post "well, I see the unrecs are already out!" But they never stop doing it. What's it been, eight months now?

It detracts from a potentially decent OP. Some ppl can't seem to get past themselves and allow their OP stand on it's own merits.

16. Regarding your edit, I think the folks replying are mostly picking at the folks who complain

about unrec'ers. Not at you.That's my take, anyways.
