It's been interesting watching my old X-Files episodes lately
My sweetie and I have been working our way through all my old X-Files VHS tapes recently, and I've been amused to see all the references to things that I now know about (in some cases thanks to DU :)) that I apparently just glossed over when the episodes originally aired. Last night mention was made of the School of the Americas and depleted uranium (in two separate episodes). Probably not surprisingly, the references are almost always made by the Lone Gunmen characters.

I've had even more fun, in a twisted way, watching the commercials. The tapes we're currently watching were made between 1993 and 1995, and the car commercials are ironic, to say the least. My current favorite is the one that advertised "Cooler cars for a cooler world." What a difference a decade can make!

1. It's sobering how accurate that series was about the American gov't
What it was, and what it would clearly become...

2. The X-Files were always terrific in being topical.
It's too bad that the "Lone Gunmen" spin off didn't take off. It too was very topical. Maybe that's why they ditched it.

3. After what they revealed about 9/11...
The Lone Gunmen signed their own death warrant!

4. Yeah, it's too bad it was on Fox. Since it was filmed in Canada
it was out of the reach of our government, but I guess it was too hot to handle for Fox TV.

7. Loved the Lone Gunmen
In both the original series and the spin-off. They were some of my favorite characters. And a great example of "conspiracy nuts" who weren't so nutty afterall.

6. I wondered why people on that show were so paranoid about the government.
Now I understand.

Too bad it's not on now. I'd love to see what Chris Carter would do with today's bunch.
