Because you are simply NOT listening to the base of the Democratic Party. I am a hard core activist and precinct committee man in Orange County Florida - I have been active in the Kerry, Edwards, and Obama campaigns, and have been a key volunteer and steering committee member on Alan Grayson's 2008 campaign, and on the three successful state house races here in Central Florida where we've taken back seats in 36 (Randolph), 49 (Soto), and 32 (Sasso which was subsequently lost at re-election) and on many others.

I have donated over $5,000 and put in more than 5000 hours into the Democratic Party and into campaigns since 2003 and I am TIRED of the Obama administration treating the base like children.

We WANT SINGLE PAYER HEALTH CARE HR676.

We WANT an FDR style jobs program not hand outs to the banksters.

We WANT FAIR TRADE not FREE TRADE. Protect American jobs against slave labor and countries that don't follow American labor, safety and environmental laws.

We WANT CARD CHECK and better protection for the right to unionize.

We WANT COLLEGE EDUCATION AND JOB TRAINING TO BE PAID FOR BY THE GOVERNMENT.

We WANT JOBS.

We do NOT WANT: COMPROMISE WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE REALLY JUST INTERESTED IN SEEING US FAIL. We would rather fail without compromising our principles so that the American people could see who the real villains are than to compromise our principles and STILL fail and look weak doing it. (Which is why we lost..)

We WANT a TOUGH President who instead of negotiating recruits primary opponents to run against Democratic Senators who won't back the liberal agenda like Bayh, Lieberman, Nelson, Nelson, Landreiu, Lincoln, Baccus, et. al. Fly AF1 into their home town and have a press conference telling them you are there to primary Blue Dogs who are selling out the party to the corporations.

If you can't get on board with us - your Democratic successor will Mr. President and I will be happy to recruit him or her and work for him or her to replace you.

and when I sort by messages with "obama" in the sender, there's a string of messages from various senders at bo.com from 4/25/08 to 1/19/10, with no large gaps in the dates. They are just part of the vast collection of unread messages that periodically get purged.

I imagine, esp. with the just-breaking news about the godawful Supreme Ct. decision, that he is really down right now. I think we're screwed. Stepping back, we are witnessing the fall of a "super-power," not that it was ever a good thing to be. Our time in the sun is now past - the end of the 20th century pretty much called it. Bright side: maybe we can start getting down to non-material things that truly matter. Become more resourceful; shrink our footprint. I'm going to miss my nice paycheck and great health coverage, though.... (laid off in December. At my age, I doubt I'll ever work in my career again!)

We couldn't even get a public option and you are demanding single payer. How many of us want free college? I don't. I already have two degrees. Degrees that I an my dad paid for. I should want a bunch of young people to get degrees paid for by my taxes so they can compete with ne?

I doubt if Obama is very worried about a primary challenger.
